Here is another clip from that same #VOY test - enjoy

Been testing the multi AI model approach I've talked about before, like photoshop has layers I'm trying to do something similar for video via complex masking and comp in Davinci Resolve. #VOY episode S07E02, testing my geometry pipeline is OK in fusion here. Depth map is old lots to improve still πŸ‘

My friend is sorting the TNG remastered Blu-rays out now, or rather the parts they could not find the 35mm for - and did an "old" version upscale from SD footage, again with the current workflow of LD to the rescue you get something like this... should be a nice drop in replacement! #Trek #TNG

GitHub - harrypm/tbc-tools: Software defined decoder tools for the decode projects video format and metadata pipeline. Software defined decoder tools for the decode projects video format and metadata pipeline. - harrypm/tbc-tools

Ah, I forked the source as I was playing with adding a windows build for a neural network decoder and also with some GPU accel on it. That did not go so well - I got results but slow. Better options are elsewhere. I like github.com/harrypm/tbc-... which is a branch from the LD Tools

Archive.org has some laserdisc things knocking about, you might not know how to handle TBCs

I saw a comment recently - few ppl outside the Laserdisc community know how to handle TBC files, is there a concise and easy to follow guide that shows how to take these files (TBC, json etc.) and convert them into a digital video source MKV MP4
I could add that to my Youtube, any appetite for that?

Dont think there has been a new master since the one for the DVDs in 2002

3 weeks ago 0 0 1 0

agreed they could do that for cheap

3 weeks ago 0 0 0 0

This is the correct answer - plus they should be able to breeze past me since they sit on the raw 35 mm film - since this is tape mastered trash with 4.5 stops compared to 11-12 from the film you would get a huge improvement in a lot of episodes - totally new look to say β€˜Necessary Evil’ etc

Yeah I recall those episodes being a thing when I was stacking the laserdiscs - I’ll check my notes

Remember I can get that back easy enough since the image is fairly uniform now - some lovely toolbox full of tricks in davinci resolve. It looks plenty sharp in motion

Some more from #VOY - note the reduction in rainbowing on his head dress (check out your SD version around these scenes)

Some nnet test shots from Star Trek #VOY Part 2 of the feature length opening episode 'Caretaker' - still ironing out some issues but this is the bleeding edge of obsolete tech! πŸ˜†
Still looks quite pretty - again direct from laserdisc, raw state

Key thing to remember when you see these early in the process shots from raw Laserdisc, they still need a LOT of work. Colour being one - just done a super quick green removal on one to give you an idea. And colour adjust does way more

For sure! Also the usual step 2-3 improves the colour as well - moving from BT470m (Old NTSC) to a more standard (these days) Rec 709.

Still making the source everything it can be before we unleash the hounds !! πŸ˜‹πŸ˜‚

And more Star Trek #VOY from this new decoder (its slow running even as I got it GPU accel)

Here is a good use for AI, neural network doing a nice job as a 3D decoder. Begone Dot crawl and crosshatching. Incredible Y-C separation.
Remember this is raw laserdisc, the very starting point for working and upscale, we end up with better image quality and less issues common to this era #VOY

Preview of upcoming treat. A smart user from a Laserdisc preservation discord built a neural network to process the spectrum better than a standard NTSC3D decoder. It performs better across the board, anyway Capt DuckEgg here managed to build a windows version going (ish) with GPU accel (early days)

So here are more shots from the DS9 Redefined Project (Now in 4K and a healthy 74Mb/s bitrate)
Season 2 "The Wire" on show. Well done @ds9redefined.bsky.social on the excellent work shown here.
