Women are redefining horror—but they’re still vastly underrepresented behind the camera. Studies estimate women make up less than 6% of all directors in the horror genre.
This is a superb interview...
Another brilliant article by @beestonia.bsky.social in @leftlion.bsky.social. These are some of the many reasons I moved here; and I love it.

No surprises but still infuriating evidence of the resistance to changing the inequalities of media industries
In an Oscar first, the nominated sound team behind “Sirāt” is entirely female: supervising sound editor Laia Casanovas, re-recording mixer Yasmina Praderas, and production sound mixer Amanda Villavieja.
73 years old and still delivering career highs: This year, Delroy Lindo is nominated for his first Oscar for his role in “Sinners,” proving that a remarkable career doesn’t lose momentum with age.

These snafus didn’t start this month.
Hattie, segregated. Sidney, “acceptable.” Halle? Still the only Black woman to win Best Actress.
@sharai.bsky.social examines how awards shows keep mishandling Black art & artists, and why we’re tired of being told to move on. 👻📽️

When women on screen age, their roles often shrink—and their appearances become plot points. Our research shows that on screen, women over 40 are:
🧑💼Less likely than men to have an occupation
🪞More likely than men to be shown engaging in cosmetic procedures
My own experience of menopause outing my neurodivergence ended my career and probably my working life. Making this known more widely could help prevent this happening to others.
Black horror is often confined, simplified, or misclassified to fit a safer mainstream narrative. @lmariewood.bsky.social digs into how Sinners challenges that tendency, emphasizing the full scope of its perspective. 👻📽️📚
