Sworn Virgin | Elvira Dones – official website

Wow stunning.

Reminds me also of Elvira Dones's Sworn Virgin that I hope is still in the conversation. A marvellous book that we are lucky to have in English translation...

Just talked about this book at a book group. Your sentences are incredible. So much humanity in all that punctuation. In addition to everything else. 💕❤️

This was a wonderful event. Happy we could help support the authors & the fundraiser. At times tears of laughter mixed with tears of pain. 26 authors, poets, and translators - while each had their own individual stories, the experiences were shared - that literature connects us all.

The more I work with you, the deeper I know your work, the more I'm impressed by your street cred :))

And I think I see what you see in this book. I continue to think and marvel at its unique structure, and how well this structure actually serves to take a body apart & put it back together anew.

that the Russian version has an afterword that mentions Helene Cixous and Luce Irigraray, two French feminist theorists who originated writing the body and which were our first readings in the course. Admittedly, I'm biased, but it's also one of the best novels I've read in a long time.

As some of you know, my dissertation was on writing the body in the works of Russian women writers and I have been teaching this course, in various iterations, even before I'd finished, thanks to Michael Heim going to bat to get this class onto the Slavic department schedule.
