it hurts everybody to take away benches because unhoused people use them to sleep. but you know who it hurts most? people who don't fucking have anywhere to sleep
every "misuse" of a public facility, whether it's bathrooms or benches or whatever is a sign that something has gone wrong more broadly. that we have fucking failed at providing for our people. and yes, they are OUR people. there is no shrugging this responsibility to each other off
and bathrooms, too. "but people will use it for drugs or make it dirty" then fucking provide them with needle dispensers etc and frequent cleanings. it's this way in other places in the world. Montreal has them everywhere. make it so people aren't desperate and the "problem" with it will go away
