Merry Christmas to your family and you, Curt!
I have 8 uncles, 2 of whom are close to my brother & me in age. They helped us have side jobs as kids so we had a little money; beat the crap out of us playing basketball; scared us when we were little & took us to the arcade. They may or may not have helped us score beer. They were & are awesome.
On this day in 1911, the great Josh Gibson was born in Buena Vista, GA. Here's my painting of the great man with the Cangrejeros de Santurce (Liga de Béisbol Profesional de Puerto Rico) in 1939. Card collectors might recognize the image from Josh's scarce 1950-51 Toleteros issue. (We see Josh posing for the viewer in his white Santurce jersey after his swing. He wears a blue hat with a white “S”. He has blue socks with two red stripes and one white. Behind him are the empty stands and batting net.)

Posed portrait of Josh Gibson wearing a pinstripe Crawford uniform while crouched.
No matter the league, no matter the era, Josh Gibson stands as one of the greatest power hitters of all time.
The legendary Negro Leagues catcher was born #OTD in 1911.
Happy birthday!
