There is a direct physical cause between giving power to mass murdering psychopaths and people getting killed.
It doesn't matter whether you try to be their friends, or their enemies. Either way, mass murdering psychopaths find some reason to try killing people. It' either "sacrifice" or "winning".

Also effective altruism which kinda boils down to trickle down economics and stuff like “working for Palantir is fine if that gives you more money to donate to good causes”.
And the way that historically restrictive immigration policies have been influenced by… fucking eugenics.
I worked in Biden's admin at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau w/ a focus on Big Tech & cryptocurrency. The Biden WH hosted many crypto round tables w/ CEOs of cryptocurrency firms, such as Sam Bankman-Fried (now serving 25 years in prison for an $8B fraud) & wealthy tech VCs like Rob Conway.

Alex Mashinsky Alex Mashinsky, who is serving a 12-year sentence for fraud and market manipulation as CEO of the Celsius cryptocurrency platform, has written to the judge overseeing his case with a pro se motion claiming “new evidence has come to my attention which implicates my attornies [sic] as constitutionally ineffective.” He argues this evidence would have significantly reduced his guideline sentence, and asked the judge to appoint counsel to help him prepare a Habeas petition. He says he cannot afford private counsel following asset seizure and forfeiture.22 Mashinsky was represented by Marc Mukasey, at the time a partner at Mukasey Young. Mukasey had previously represented then-private citizen Donald Trump in a 2019 lawsuit to avoid disclosing his tax returns to a Manhattan district attorney, and Sam Bankman-Fried in his sentencing-related matters, though not during his criminal trial.23 The judge denied the request, explaining that “the right to appointed counsel ‘extends to the first appeal of right, and no further.’” Because Mashinsky pleaded guilty and never filed an appeal — the 14-day deadline to inform the court he intends to appeal has long since passed — he missed that chance. While the judge informs him he does have discretion to appoint counsel in Habeas cases, he tells Mashinsky he must first demonstrate his claim has merit with the resources available to him.24

“Building gunpla as a date” or “teaching my gf how to build gunpla” content is so gross. It’s infantalizing, and we all know that should she get really into it and start customizing, the bf will be mad if her stuff looks better than his.

Starting to see builders making clickbait reels like tiktok, for example “the top 5 gunpla to build! Check description!”….I am so tired of unoriginal content like that

Agreed on all counts (I was a rape crisis counselor for 8 1/2 years & have a deep understanding of the realities and prevalence of sexual violence.) I don’t mess with Meta much anymore (read Careless People over a year ago & extracted myself.) I knew it was bad, but wow. State sponsored media, whoa.
The point is that giving money to actual effective charities is going to be way more effective than wiring money to some randos who at best might be actual Palestinians
If there's not enough food or water in Gaza, all that the money can do is make one Gazan starve instead of another
T AFRICA 3/6 Currency as Coercion From Medellín to Bangkok, the pattern is the same. The "Passport-Bro" culture-a subset of tourists who explicitly travel to "currency-friendly" nations to leverage their economic status for sexual access. BALI (CANGGU), INDONESIA Massive displacement of locals for "Nomad Villas," creating a desperate class of service workers prone to sexual coercion. SANTO DOMINGO, DR The "Sankie" culture: Local men and women engaging in "romantic" relationships with tourists for economic survival-often resulting in unprotected sex. NAIROBI, KENYA The "Silicon Savannah" attracts tech nomads who use dating apps to target university students struggling with the cost-of-living crisis.
T AFRICA 4/6 The Global Mapping of Currency-Driven Exploitation MEDELLÍN, COLOMBIA: THE "SCOPOLAMINE" FRONTIER The Fact: Medellín saw a 40% surge in international visitors in 2023/2024. Simultaneously, the city recorded a record spike in STI transmissions. BANGKOK & PHUKET, THAILAND: THE "LDP" VISA FALLOUT The Fact: Since the introduction of the Long-term Resident (LDP) visa targeting digital nomads, Syphilis cases in Thailand have nearly doubled (a 100% increase) over a five-year window. MANILA & CEBU, PHILIPPINES: THE ASIA-PACIFIC EPICENTRE The Fact: Passport-bro hub "The Philippines" holds the distinction of having the fastest-growing HIV epidemic in the Asia-Pacific region. Daily diagnoses have increased by over 400% in the last decade.
T AFRICA 5/6 Beyond Sex Tourism: Content Exploitation Traditional sex tourism was transactional. Today's "digital content creator" (as seen in recent Russian incidents in Kenya and SA) seeks "social proof." The creators' "bros" are filming local encounters, using Meta Glasses without consent, and mocking local trust in Telegram subscriptions or streaming platforms. They aren't just bringing infections; they are exporting the dignity of our people for clicks.
T AFRICA Using Currency as a Weapon Africa is rising, but we cannot allow our borders to be so porous that they invite social destruction. Economic growth is hollow if it comes at the cost of human dignity, sex trafficking, and a burdened healthcare system. The data is undeniable: when Western tourists leverage "strong currencies" to escape their own cost-of-living crises, the local population pays the price in health and dignity. HAVE YOUR SAY IN THE COMMENTS
I remembered that Instagram sometimes will try to force you to sign into an account to view things especially on the web so here's the rest of the carousel
Even if they are real, giving money to actual charities would be way more effective
Meta plans 8,000 layoffs for May 20. Sudan faces a deepening humanitarian crisis. Nebraska softball swept Minnesota 11-2. The Supreme Court declared past import tariffs unconstitutional. Protesters in Tokyo decry Prime Minister Takaichi policies. Microsoft reports Windows boot loop issues.
A varied approach is more effective. We need the charities, AND they need money so they can get food/water through other channels. Reducing the cash flow to the very real Gazans (even diverting it to charities) would result in a worse outcome. That's why I don't trust people who say this.
kannski verðum við ekki frjáls fyrr en við stjórnum öllum þessum stigum. en hvað erum við þá annað en alheimurinn að hreyfa "litlu tá", sem er einstaklingurinn með þennan "frjálsa vilja"?

William MacAskill, author of Doing Good Better, speaks to Sam Harris on effective altruism, AI and the future of humanity: youtube.com/watch?v=5JF0gOQvskY
Are..... they accusing EA of being TESCREAL? Is that what's happening?
I'm all for punching EA in the face (I think William MacAskill is a jackass) but this specific scenario is *incredibly* funny to me.
Reading the Empire of AI by Karen Hao has been a trip. I never knew that William MacAskill convinced Samuel Bankman-Fried, once a physics major wannabe academic, to go all in for EA. This is a philosophy “embracing the principles of capitalism and libertarianism-all in the name of morality.” Wow.

Exactly. He needed more big 'stroke of genius' victories for which Ted accidentally took credit. Or more scenes of other people (eg Rupert) giving him unearned confidence. But it works best if it's Ted's fault for just not realizing that Nate needed direct affirmation.
