New article (link in blog entry below) on how the old story of "people arrived and destroyed the Madagascar environment" misses a chance for much more nuanced investigation. Who? What? When? Where? Why? are crucial questions. christiankull.net/2025/07/01/g...
Had some fun with photo-editing and wrote about a worst nightmare for the hotter future….

#LongCovid, #MECFS and #PAIS are medical and ethical emergencies. Though many people fail to recognise this as such.
On the ethical issues, our website with the video recordings of the talks held at the #postviralethics conference is now online!! 👇

La motion pour une Stratégie Nationale Suisse sur ME/CFS et Long Covid a été déposée au Parlement. Acceptez la! Nous connaissons presque tous quelqu'un dans nos cercles qui est atteint de Long COVID ou de ME/CFS.
The USAID thing: world’s richest man, in unelected job, closes agency that helps the world’s poorest and promotes democracy. Huh?
Bravo! Est-ce que tu arrives à lire leur « handwriting » ?
A thoughtful meditation and reminder of the scale of the reforms needed. It's not just that people are moving into fire-prone lands; in Mediterranean Europe the problem is people moving out of fire-prone lands. It's not where you live but how you live on the land. www.nytimes.com/2025/01/11/o...
Ok, an anecdotal image - but this is what structure protection looked like in the 1935 Malibu fires. What a change in scale and character - of fire, of the built environment, of firefighting capacity (CCC boys then). Only the inevitability of fire in some form is constant.
It is often assumed that « more forests » is simply better and more sustainable, without careful consideration of how and where it happens, who wins and who loses, and what kinds of forests. How about a political ecology of forest transitions?

How to reconcile global and local benefits of forest restoration - or how to ensure local voices, justice, and leadership in the face of strong forces of global agencies and intermediaries? New blog and article.

The road to conservation in semi-arid lands still goes straight through the thicket of colonialism: protecting the rights of Indigenous pastoralists and their rare livestock. This is both a practical question and a deeply ethical one. edgeeffects.net/conservation...

Recent article in @natureandspace.bsky.social: I examine long-proposed ‘amorphous’ dams & diversions in the Salween River Basin & show how speculation & rumour are deployed strategically by differently placed actors working towards project development or demise. Open access!
An important petition for scientific accountability in reviewing research on ME/CFS and the advice given to doctors. Listen to the patients and the quality research, not to received ‘wisdoms’. This is important my elder son and millions of sufferers like him around the world
