@ambonacolta.bsky.social and I co-hosted (and gave talks in) a special symposium for @protistologyopen.bsky.social today. It was super fun to put this together, & glad all of these amazing scientists were able to join us!! @mixotrophe.bsky.social

También será posible
Que, esa hermosa mañana
Ni tú, ni yo, ni el otro
La lleguemos a ver
Pero habrá que forzarla
Para que pueda ser

But... 1 kg per day, just in vegetables??? Seems a bit odd - I don't think I have 1kg of food per day myself.

To be clear - saw the graph so I clicked the link, and I was very confused for a few seconds thinking about sunfish (Mola mola) invading freshwater ecosystems...

Is that graph made by AI? Because the sunfish there is the oceanic sunfish, that has nothing to do with that family apart from the common name...

is there a link to the paper itself anywhere?

I hate percentage graphs when one could plot absolute values. They can be very misleading.

There are data that are proportional/compositional by nature (so it is fair to put percentages). But, if not... Please use absolute if possible.

There's some misunderstanding around (I think/hope).

LTER calls are very specific and are archived after awarding. Then they reopen/activate a new one when needed. They are not free game, but very directed to whatever the program thinks is now needed (for new ones) or which ones need more years.

I came to the same conclusion (an alpha male) but the size if off for the species. And I could not get info of any other species...

Well, then below-the-average hurricane season in the Atlantic. I would appreciate a break here in Bermuda.

...sorry for the post bombing. Isopod, but not parasitic of fish.

A Fine Isopod Found on a piece of kelp growing on a boat. Honestly, my first through was some kind of larval spiny or slipper lobster, but then I realized I had the animal backwards. I'm fairly confident it's in ...

Yes isopod :)

Looks to me a parasitic isopod (Cymothoidae). Maybe @jopabinia.bsky.social will know better than me?

that is assuming that we know how to study... And that is a lot.

I know what worked for me as student, but I do not think that would suit most people.

We all know #fungi are the dominant microbial #eukaryotes in #forest #soils… or are they really?
In our new paper, we revisited 51 forest metatranscriptomes from 4 European and North American forest regions - and found that protistan predators outshine fungi in activity!

Went for a hike after skiing... These Utah mountains are magical

Apart from skiing, I enjoy the nature. The warmer days were dominated by the steller's jay, but with the snow storm juncos are around by the dozen. And a white snowshoe hare. And a moose. And so many others

I also think more on this line, TBH, but seems an unpopular opinion today

Taking time with the family to enjoy what is left of winter in Utah. I love this area so much, the mountains, the snow... We even saw a moose!!!!

But, last year, same week, there were 2-3 m of snow and fresh powder. Here is the effect of the record high temperatures they are getting in the SW!

Did the car work at least?

I have to admit I just stick to whichever fonts NSF allows for their proposals - and use it for everything

But, how are these numbers in absolute, not percentage? Since most times I see that they are being used to supply the increasing energy demand, without a significant decrease in fossil fuels consumption and CO2 emissions.
