Most data management software is unusable within 10 years.

I spent a lot of time trying to find the right data management / database software for my thesis. Ultimately ended up using spreadsheets and colour coding individual cells to sort my information. Works better for me and is future proof -as are index cards.
New article from @abieler.bsky.social on the empiricism of polycrisis debate and how to parse structural and conjunctural analysis @adamtooze.bsky.social

Congratulations, UM is very lucky to have you!!
The fourth season is excellent but emotionally gruelling - above and beyond that of the other seasons
The 21st century’s Rougon-Macquart! I keep intending to rewatch but don’t know whether I could make it through the fourth season again.
Good news for now from the State Library of Victoria (SLV), which once was one of the world's great libraries. A respite at least until the next external consultant comes along to vandalize the institution, with the support of its 'management'
Dongs of Sevotion and Red Apple Falls are great places to start. Enjoy!

That’s rough, but it’s better to be in the ball park than out of it? For what it’s worth I believe in you and your work and hope it’s just a matter of time between you and the next position.
Really sorry to hear this, the HE job market sucks.
We were very pleased to get the news today that the Australian National Dictionary Centre will be saved, thanks to an anonymous donation and the halt on involuntary redundancies under the Renew ANU plan. We thank everyone for their generous support through these difficult times.

I’m guessing that St George’s Rd‘s proximity to Merri Creek meant it developed differently. The creek used to flood, and there was lots of industry along it. There doesn’t appear to be much housing built along the western side of the road until the interwar years.

Looks like the NAA has put RecordSearch behind Cloudflare browser checks, so all my scrapers are broken. Not a surprise given the current environment, but that's another 15+ years work down the drain. I'm having a good year...
This is very disappointing to hear. Your work should be celebrated not terminated.

!!! pretty depraved algorithm that doesn’t consider this hate speech
I absolutely loved Kathleen Hannah’s (Bikini Kill & Le Tigre) autobiography. Also Will Sergeant and Stephen Morris have each written two great autobiographies each. Will’s capture life in northern England superbly even if you are entirely disinterested in Echo and the Bunnymen.
I’m also feeling profoundly stupid in my writing - but didn’t have the sense to get my self a good lunch.
Clearly not stupid if that’s your lunch!
