(PS: Anyone who would tell you that you have to keep your social media open to things that stress you out can go fuck themselves and also maybe should remember there is a world outside social media)
My desk area, with one monitor, two cats, and three paintings of my book covers.
I understand there are other things going on in the world today but here at the Scalzi Compound this Monday is going to be about that last push to finish this novel I'm writing, which is so close to being done. Be kind to yourselves today, folks. See you soon.
So far in 2025 I have watched more Tim Thomerson movies than I have since the 90s.
recent Overhated episodes include Clue, Green Lantern, Ford Fairlane, The Three Musketeers (2011), The Fog (2005), and Remo Williams. {thanks to guests @dcpierson.bsky.social, @stephmorgan0.bsky.social, @neuroticmonkey.bsky.social, @lovelyzena.bsky.social, @jayblack.bsky.social and @effinbirds.com!}

Watches over the last few days:
The Dicks from Texas

A boy and his dog
boxd.it/7SPWQN
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice

All three worth it. The dicks from Texas has some production value limits but that band is legendary.
One of the things us “Bluesky Elders” have learned from our year & a half here is that this experience is what you make of it. Block trolls, don’t quote drag, mute jerks, mute topics that make you angry or sad, just go all in on self-moderation and this place can be so fucking chill. It’s worth it.
What horror movie will you always defend?
Always been a staunch defender of Leviathan, a ridiculously fun underwater mish-mash of The Thing and Alien.
I tried to watch “Pump
Up the volume” for the first time since probably 1991 or 1992. I just couldn’t do it.
A couple of painting / sketches I did recently while stuck on airplanes. Both done on an iPad with @procreate.com

Need to be off socials for a time. Just a reminder if you somehow didn’t get on board for the Kickstarter of the @glennf.com book “How Comics Were Made,” you can still nab a copy of your own. One of the highlights of 2024 for me was designing and illustrating this. glog.glennf.com/hcwm-store/h...

🧪Now that the Twitter exodus is in full force, I thought I'd create a curated list of researchers, journalists, and organizations working to strengthen scientific integrity and expose misconduct.

🚦Epic Games has given the Internet Archive the green light to host installation files for Unreal and its follow-up, Unreal Tournament.
Both games were pulled from sale years ago, but with Epic's approval, will live on as a part of video game history

The art on this is fairly unparalleled. Very beautifully done, for certain.
As a former video store clerk from the early-mid 90s, your format reminds me most of that time/vibe, which was some of my most cherished. It’s my favorite movie podcast to enjoy because of that. The concept is fixed but also fluid. I dig it.
We used to shoot for no more than 60 minutes with mine (nerdy stuff, unrelated to movies). The data showed that ~50-58 minutes was the sweet spot almost universally. Only a few years of data, though.
Watched pulp fiction again for the first time in about 20 years.
I’d forgotten what a masterpiece that is, and remembered a few quirks that I always had to think about.
What do others think about it after 30 years?
