The "publish or perish" culture must perish. Scientists need time to think.
We just published our Slow Science Manifesto, where we argue that huge changes are needed in the way we fund, publish, and evaluate science.

Pol II transcription must be terminated at some point. What happens to the cell when Pol II cannot terminate transcription efficiently?
3. Given that NELF‑C is upregulated in several cancers, including colorectal cancer, our findings underscore the therapeutic potential of targeting the NELF complex.
Huge thanks to all the authors, including Yağız Öztürk in my lab, and the @royalsociety.org for funding!
2. The transcriptional termination defect is likely mediated by the redistribution of cleavage and polyadenylation factors (CPA) and transcription termination factors from the poly(A) site to the RNA polymerase II pausing site and by an increase in transcription elongation rate.
1. We found that a rapid loss of NELF-C, a subunit of the NELF complex regulating RNA polymerase II pausing, promotes a general transcriptional readthrough leading to transcription/replication conflicts and cell cycle arrest.
Extremely happy to share our latest research on the NELF complex in @emboreports.org done in collaboration with the groups of Dr Takayuki Nojima and Dr Yasukazu Daigaku in Japan.

Helpful update into UKRI and research council funding changes from Zoe Kleinman @zsk.bsky.social
But please more focus on 2 things...
1) Immediate effects (eg funding decisions expected in March)
2) Likely disproportionate effects on early career scientists

Excited to share our new Nature study! 🧬
We (sidrituruci.bsky.social et al) discovered that CFAP20 helps clear stalled RNAPII, preventing harmful clashes with DNA replication machinery. This protects cells from R-loops and genome instability.

I am happy to have contributed to this study published in @cp-cellreports.bsky.social and led by @ahellab.bsky.social group, on the interplay between two ADP-ribosylation (ADPr) hydrolases TARG1 and PARG, revealing that PARG regulates TARG1 protein level.

Another exciting opportunity @dunnschool.bsky.social !
Come and be a colleague to a great group of scientists working on the fundamental mechanisms underlying disease, and how to transform health
Please help us find great applicants
Please add me as well. Thank you!
Hi everyone!
New to the community and thrilled to be starting a lab @warwicklifesci.bsky.social focused on the intersection of membrane protein biogenesis and gene regulation.
Looking forward to connect with fellow researchers.

In this study, Mimoso et al. show that Restrictor serves as a transcriptional safeguard that suppresses the spurious transcription of non-coding RNAs, while preserving mRNA transcription.
