The "publish or perish" culture must perish. Scientists need time to think.

We just published our Slow Science Manifesto, where we argue that huge changes are needed in the way we fund, publish, and evaluate science.

3. Given that NELF‑C is upregulated in several cancers, including colorectal cancer, our findings underscore the therapeutic potential of targeting the NELF complex.

Huge thanks to all the authors, including Yağız Öztürk in my lab, and the @royalsociety.org for funding!

2. The transcriptional termination defect is likely mediated by the redistribution of cleavage and polyadenylation factors (CPA) and transcription termination factors from the poly(A) site to the RNA polymerase II pausing site and by an increase in transcription elongation rate.

1. We found that a rapid loss of NELF-C, a subunit of the NELF complex regulating RNA polymerase II pausing, promotes a general transcriptional readthrough leading to transcription/replication conflicts and cell cycle arrest.

Excited to share our new Nature study! 🧬

We (sidrituruci.bsky.social et al) discovered that CFAP20 helps clear stalled RNAPII, preventing harmful clashes with DNA replication machinery. This protects cells from R-loops and genome instability.
