To better understand farmers' decision-making in response to climate info, we invited farmers to a simulated farming “game” that explored investment choices, risk & social dynamics.
👉 Here's a look at what we learned.

Does charging a small price for new technologies increase future adoption because of signaling quality, screening for those who value the product, or creating a sunk cost? Read more below ⬇️
Check out our special issue in Agricultural Systems for a collection of new papers all related to seed systems.
Just published in Agricultural Systems: Looks matter! Drought-tolerant maize variety promoted through trial packs did not *look* more drought-tolerant than older varieties, consistent with farmers' perceptions. This offers a potential reason for low future use. www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...
In the first of our #AES2025 sessions on agriculture, @berberkramer.bsky.social of @ifpri.org discusses ways to increase use of agtech.
"Visual tools like picture-based weather insurance increase trust and uptake among men & women—making insurance more inclusive and accessible at the same cost."
Super happy our #AgSys paper “Inclusive and gender-transformative seed systems: Concepts and applications” is now online!
Key highlight for me is that social/multimedia can be a powerful strategy to impact social and gender norms at various levels of seed systems.
Questions & comments welcome!
Very cool technology evaluated by @berberkramer.bsky.social : Evaluating crop loss for insurance payout with crop/field photos. Encouraging uptake results! ideas.repec.org/p/ags/aaea22...
🌟 @berberkramer.bsky.social of @ifpri.org kicking off @oxfordcsae.bsky.social: new picture-based index insurance increases product take-up and fertilizer investment in Kenya, especially among women in arid regions.
Opportunity! @carlytrachtman.bsky.social and I are looking for consultant with master's degree (or graduating from master's program soon) to analyze the cost effectiveness of various strategies to promote improved crop varieties 🌽🌾🫘 More information? See the link!🔻

I can’t think of a better 1st post on Bluesky introducing myself than posting today’s #Econ5K 🏃♀️ result. With Ironman 70.3 World Champs just 2 weeks ago, followed by lots of hiking at sea level, and some junk miles 🚴♀️ the last few days, I’m happy that I could produce some speed back at elevation 🥳
