Does the use of social media for work yield benefits, or are positive correlations merely selection effects?
We disentangle within- and between-person effects.
Main result:
When people use social media more than usual, they report higher values on the outcomes, hinting towards media effects.
Post Doc at Uni Tübingen! 100% position for 3 (+3) years; they're looking for somebody to analyze large-scale longitudinal datasets in education research.
Expertise in machine learning is an advantage, commitment to research transparency desirable 😌 proficiency in German beneficial but not required

Neue Studie von Fabian Erhardt, Olaf Kramer, Annette Leßmöllmannn @annetteless.bsky.social (RHET AI) sowie Helen Fischer, Sonja Utz @sonja-utz.de & Noemie Holzschuh (@iwmtue.bsky.social) untersucht, was im Alltag als #Wissen gilt.
🚀 New publication! Can people tell if a science post is from a scientist or a layperson? Not always - platform design (fast scrolling, hidden profiles) makes it difficult. Across 2 experiments, @sonja-utz.de and I show how users confuse the two.

It's terrible. And I hoped this year would be better ..
New paper co-authored with @kaisassenberg.bsky.social and @lpummerer.bsky.social out: We used five waves of longitudinal data to untangle how health vs. economic fears relate between- and within-subjects to quality vs. alternative media use www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10....
Go work with Kou! Autocorrect kept trying to replace his name with "Joy", which is pretty appropriate because he's a joy to work with and a fantastic mentor to his students!

Not if you live close to Stuttgart...the trains to Tübingen once more won't run in the first three weeks of December ...:-(

The new call for CSC fellowships is open - if you're a Chinese student who wants to work on health influencers on social media, check out my project #08: uni-tuebingen.de/internationa...
Busy but inspiring days: first #MediaPsych25, than the joint #Digikomm&HMC conference and now in train to Amsterdam for a PhD defense tomorrow.
„AfD legt zu, Grüne verlieren"
Heißt es in den Medien. Die Journalisten fragen Grüne, ob sie jetzt auch mehr Abschiebungen fordern werden.
Aber auch richtig ist:
„AfD verliert im Vergleich zur BTW, Grüne zweitbestes Ergebnis in NRW“
Framing in den Medien macht den Rechtsruck.
Great talk by @anneo.bsky.social about the eras of social media #mediapsych25
@stefaniehklein.bsky.social presenting the results of our longitudinal study on the relationship between tool vs. actor+perception of communicative AI on credibility # mediapsych25
#Mediapsych25 started with inspiring methodological discussions this morning, followed by many good talks
The female speaker standing in front of the slides, with catchy (and not necessarily evidence based) claims from haidts book on the anxious generation
In the first keynote of ##MePsy25 Jessica Piotrowski talked a central question of #MediaPsych - social media use between controll and competence - bringing nuanced and much needed evidence to a highly debated topic (and often panic driven regulation)
Skimming social media posts can help you build ambient awareness about who-knows-what in your network. This can even happen under cognitive load: www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.... @everydaymedialab.bsky.social (so between all my complaints about trains, there might be something useful ;-))
Toll Bahn.
Congrats - well deserved!
Excited to announce that my paper with @lpummerer.bsky.social, @sonja-utz.de & @kaisassenberg.bsky.social on conspiracy beliefs is published. We examined the relationship between conspiracy beliefs and procedural justice during the peak and decay of the pandemic.

What are social media? Seems obvious, right? #TikTok? Definitely. #LinkedIn? Sure. #Facebook? Yes. #YouTube? Well… maybe less clear?
In our @everydaymedialab.bsky.social project(lead @larawolfers.bsky.social) we suggest a framework for researchers #transparency
