The Hot Ronald Colman (Lions, Towers & Shields 138) Someone suggested we honor the films of 1926 — 100 years ago — and so we shall. Beau Geste has been remade often, but here is the original, starring Ronald Colman in his matinee idol period. S recent massive restoration of the film has the film looking great, with lots of footage restored. It’s a silent film, if that affects your interest, but it’s quite compelling.

Don't use headings to arbitrarily style text. If you apply “Heading 4” style, you add a <h4> heading tag to the item. When screen reader users navigate from heading to heading, the item will be treated as a heading. This will be confusing. Only treat actual headings as headings.

Automatic captions make it difficult to watch videos because the viewer is forced to decipher misspelled or mistranslated words that appear in a string of text without any punctuation. These can be distracting and disorienting. Always edit your captions before publishing.

When I got that first job editing computer magazines – tabloid format newspapers, really – I also set up the company's first email system and helped keep a bunch of Mac Pluses running. And, um, there was some mischief with QuickMail, as a protest against unloved bosses. We were young.

Next, I fixed everyone's Macs – usually they just had one. I was the anti-mansplainer who trained women to get the most from their little beige boxes. I did write HyperCard stacks for a fancy lawyer while wearing a suit and heels, with a Mac Plus slung over my shoulder.

Most starting-out reporter jobs in those days would have sent me to small towns where you needed a car. So I pivoted to nonprofits, local politics and a newsletter called The MacBulletin. I learned to make myself indispensable by building databases and managing mailing lists.

I've told versions of this on podcasts, but without the slap upside the head from my journalism professor. It feels weird to send the written version into the world though, mostly because it screams "you old!"

Such a great film and well deserving of a criterion release and a fabulous essay. I introduced this film to my Lions Towers and Shields podcast panel and everyone loved it.
