The EU Court of Justice has ruled today that Hungary's anti-LGBTI propaganda law infringes EU law. The court found a standalone violation of Article 2 of TEU for systemically undermining the rights of a minority group, dehumanising LGBTI people. This marks a historic victory for European democracy.
“This bill forces homeless people charged with a crime to make the false choice between jail or at least one year of forced treatment. Louisiana has a long history—and present—of chain gangs, prison labor, and entrenched white supremacy" says @homelesslaw.bsky.social
The PhD doesn’t end with the thesis.
It opens a new question: what next?

Knife crime! Pronouns! Meat bans! Some political issues lead to "hotter", more emotional and polarizing debates than others. We show how these "trigger points" reveal a contested structure of moral expectations and how they get weaponized by polarization entrepreneurs. OA @bjsociology.bsky.social 🧵

An eye opening blog post from @benpatrickwill.bsky.social about ghost references - we can blame AI, Google Scholar is a culprit, too, but their origin predates these he discovered.
Truly excellent and should be mandatory listening for anyone in higher education
Disgusting reporting by BBC using a tiny number of cases to suggest widespread abuse of a system which routinely denies LGBTQIA+ individuals asylum and forces them back into environments of persecution. This article massively distorts the reality of the situation. 1/

Looking forward to this getting the same level of coverage as the BBC's original report
2 Qs that arise from BBC "lying migrants" stuff are (1) if the asylum system is unjust, is it wrong for applicants to lie? & (2) is system set up so people genuinely deserving of protection are forced to lie to get it? Raising such Qs is a political non-starter, but they still matter morally.

Hi Charlene. This is a really thoughtful blog post, so personal, and a terrific read. I really was touched. I am having an issue with your blog and I left you a chat message.
New blog post: administration v government.
They're used in reference to US and UK political powers (respectively) for good reason—but are they swapping places at all?
