Exactly this. I will suspend my disbelief for a lot. But if there's no jeopardy or consequence and everything can just be undone, why would I care? And very often this is where multiverse narratives go. (See also total reset moves in time travel stories).

A skeletal tree against a blue sky with clouds with a dusting of snow in the glen. A stripe of snow twists up the trunk.

Assuming it's not too cloudy to see them, it's hard to take a bad photo of the mountains north of Ullapool - it's an amazing landscape.
A mountain/rock formation rises up in the middle of the image, catching some afternoon sun against a somewhat overcast sky. Further shadowed hills of similar abruptness can be seen in the distance. Close in, the featured summit shows through a gap between two further shadowed hills. In-camera GND filter used for the sky - for better or worse I'm still not sure...

Patches of sunlight shine silver on a grey sea; the clouds above are grey but slightly broken where sunbeams slant through. The foreground shore and a small island are silhouetted. Taken using a polarising filter and the camera's in-built GND filter.

Bracket fungus on a fallen log seen from above as overlapping wooden half-saucers. Extensive green moss also on the log with a dark grey brown carpet of fallen leaves slightly out of focus below.

A waterfall cascades down a dark cliff in a ghostly fashion with a long exposure. In the foreground, sunlit heather and a skeletal birch tree catch the light.

A close up of a knot / recess in an old tree trunks gives the appearance of an eye looking out at you. Or, alternatively, it is a close up of an ent's eye.

Perfect - exactly what I wanted to know! Many thanks!
Would you be willing to say how long an exposure / what strength of filter you used for this? It's an amazing shot, and I just have no idea how long you have to shoot to get this effect.
I don't understand any of the technical content, but your post coloured me intrigued, and I had a genuine laugh out loud moment in the article - thanks!
Great question. No I hadn't - and hadn't even thought of it for this shot to be honest. Your question makes me think I should! I'll have a go when I get a bit of time with my computer!

The brown slopes of a Munro are dappled with late spring snow patches on the summit ridge above the grey silver waters of a loch. Sunlight cuts through cloud to spotlight the lower slopes. In-camera GND filter used on the sky and slightly underexposed but no post-processing as not clever enough.

A bright blue-green turquoise strip of sea cuts across the photo. Below it is an extensive low tide beach, with dark seaweed in the near-ground. Above it the hills of Harris (and a nearby wee island) can be seen, so the sea is not in fact the final horizon. Blue sky with clouds above.

A flock of grey pigeons against a grey sky. Only taken as I'm still learning the bird capture settings on my camera, so was happy to get some in flight and in focus even on a grey day with a terrible winter light.
A phenomenally grey day, leaving this flock of pigeons taken in colour looking very black and white. Or simply shades of grey...

Looking across the Bosporus from the western shore. A small open wooden boat rests moored in the foreground, while a tanker or bulk carrier steams through the channel in the distance. A 19th century mosque is on the left, while behind it part of the span of a modern suspension bridge can be seen. Taken on an old compact camera on a bright sunny day, so a fairly washed out image!

Framing and photo quality could be much better I'm sure, but definitely illustrates some of Istanbul's many contrasts.

A 1/3s ish shot of a small cascade in a mountain stream. About a 50cm drop close up showing water shooting from top left to bottom right over an ice fall. Further ice exists in the wider splash zone.

A black silhouette of a bare winter tree against a dark blue sky. Feels bleak and haunted. The tree trunk curves sharply over the path before creating a more conventional crown.

A stone cairn on the left and the ground on the right are in dark shadow immediately post sunset but an orange glow is caught on the cloud sea in the mid-distance. Some further peaks poke through the cloud near the horizon.

A grid collage of flower photos. I'm not being lazy not naming them - I don't know the majority (though I'm sure I looked them up at the time. They include a silver thistle and autumn crocus. The daisy type plants, of which there are two, were both photographed high high on the mountain.

Top half of the photo shows grey and white slightly broken cloud. The bottom half shows serried ranks of hills receding at lighter and lighter shades, with, in the distance, the grey waters of Loch Lomond running towards us on the left. A moody mountain view.

A small river splits around a boulder and falls in two cascades that join at the bottom. Slightly long exposure to get the water to blur, but this puts most of the shot in shadow... one day I will learn to exposure bracket. Sunlight catches some foliage in the top left corner however.

A small but tough (and probably pretty old, given growing conditions here at ~600m) tree grows out of the top of a large cleft boulder on the right of the picture. It's bare branches as this is an early March photo. In the background is hillside and crags typically of the Scottish Highlands
A test of time. A doughty upland tree grows from a cleft boulder.
A twofer for #ThickTrunkTuesday and #RockinTuesday.
In fact this perch has seen this tree through, free from early-life predation from deer and sheep, on an otherwise bare hillside.

A mountain face dominated by white snowfields (icy nevé in reality) and dark snow dappled crags catches the sun and dominates the bottom two thirds of the frame, against dark grey clouds above. Taken from An Caisteal - it was too late in the day to go on to climb Beinn a' Chròin too.

The bottom half of the photo shows four tiers of mountain silhouettes with progressively lighter tones. The sky is grey cloud, with lighter tones to the left and snow squalls to the right. The furthest tier of mountains has sunlight making the snow squall glow in front of it.

Not my creation - just sitting there waiting at a river ford.
Two cairns comprising single stacks of stones on a larger boulder, with pine trees and blue sky with clouds behind. The cairn on the left is a single pillar, while the one on the right gets wider and has two columns for a stretch at the top to create a stone window balanced precariously. Photographed as seen - I had no part in the creation!
I learnt last year the French for 'cairn' is <cairn> (masculine), which surprised me given I thought the word had a Gaelic origin. Anyway, here's a particularly ambitious one for #RockinTuesday. Parc National des Écrins, #France, September.
