I've been obsessed with the idea of a triptych system being used as interludes for the writing. I'm trying it out right now, telling the same myth of creation from three different perspectives with different beliefs and biases, and it's amazing.

You ever get to the point where you're writing and then something jumps out at you and you just have to take step back and realize "I'm writing about myself, my struggles, and I don't really like it" but you're writing good advice to yourself so you keep writing?
I hope I'm not the only one.
The Cloister of Silence: an orphanage, formerly operating on the 4th Level of Hel, long abandoned with rumors of other occupants now roaming the halls, crying for the lost children.
every writer needs a solid nemesis even if that nemesis is decaf coffee.
this is now a decaf coffee hate account.
Visual Representation of the setting, The City of August (done by AI because I have little to no artistic skill, nor the means to hire an artist to do it for me, which I will be doing later).
The structure stands just over 6.5 miles high, with a rough population of 30 million souls contained.
The painting was generated using AI in a Baroque-inspired oil style, based on original character references. It’s part of a larger visual series meant to support the book’s development and reader immersion.
All characters are original, and are simply to be referenced as visual accompaniment.
A richly detailed oil painting in Baroque style depicts five key protagonists from The Quiet Pain of a Shackled God, gathered in a grand, dimly lit throne room. At the center, Lirian sits poised on an ornate throne, dressed in dark finery with gold embroidery, her expression calm but commanding. Behind her, Grimoire stands tall and imposing, clad in dark armor with gold accents, his arms crossed, watching over the others. Seranai reclines with practiced ease on the stone steps below the throne, her blade resting in her lap. To one side, Alzira stands draped in white and silver fabrics, ethereal and composed, while Rhalis is seated on the steps, a tattoo marring her face and a small blade clutched in her hand. Evidence of further tattoos decorate her left hand - presumed to travel up her arm. The room’s torchlight casts deep shadows, emphasizing both elegance and danger—unmistakably framing them as the rising, volatile heart of the protagonistic faction.
As displayed, Grimoire in the upper left, Seranai in the bottom left, Lirian front and center, Alzira in the upper right, and Rhalis in the bottom right.
These are the primary protagonistic characters of The Quiet Pain of a Shattered God.

Hi I'm in this post, and I don't like it
What's so frustrating is that it takes less than a sentence - usually just a muttered comment in my case - to keep me engaged. It always feels like the wave is about to crash, and it never does. It's my least favorite thing to find when I'm reading.
I haven't gotten to play Doom: The Dark Ages yet, but just as a general rule regarding the soundtrack:
If you see the artist card on Spotify and it's a collection of four men who look like accountants, your ears are going to melt. Most brutal soundtrack for a video game every committed to tape.
A woman stands in formal black attire with structured leather shoulders, quilted sleeves, and tall fitted boots. Her long tunic is patterned with subtle gold floral designs, and two gold tassels hang from decorative medallions near the collar. Her expression is calm and watchful, framed by loosely tied back hair. The overall aesthetic is elegant and militaristic, blending ceremonial design with functional form.
Lirian's outfit for the "Interludes" chapters (working title: The Triptych) in The Quiet Pain of a Shattered God
One of my favorite things about writing is being able to describe clothing or outfits. I think it gives the world a much more tactile feel.

Just sitting there thinking about it like "waitadamnminute" 😂 I love it when that happens
Literally one of the best movies I've ever seen, I couldn't stop thinking about it once I walked out of the theater
What's been the most random one? I don't know where mine was, a lot of inspo usually comes from imagining buildings as they age through hundreds and thousands of years, and then building figures and worlds to fit the architecture or surviving art
I'm usually listening to a song and one of the lyrics will strike something. Like I was listening to Spotify Shuffle and "No Sleep Till Brooklyn" came on, so now I have a fully written horror/nightmare dream sequence to add to the book somewhere.
this one is me coming up with ideas in incredibly stupid ways
Finally finished a tone rewrite for The Quiet Pain of a Shattered God! Moving into a interlude scene, and then starting Act III of 4! Excited to explore this world a bit more. #fantasywriters #worldbuilding #TQPOASG
Fell into a little bit of writer's block for the past week or so, and the only thing to pull me out of it was exceedingly angry music and scrolling through Pinterest for character inspiration.
All it took was one extra interraction, and now we're off to the races yet again. #TQPOASG #darkfantasy
The Fray: A massive market that dominates the 10th Level of Hel, stretching for miles of ever-shifting stalls, informal courtyards, and teeming masses of people. Massive stone pillars support the weight of the levels above. A place where anything can be found, and anything can be lost. #TQPOASG
The Name of the Wind! Have reread it often enough to have it running through my mind most days, and it's the first book I recommend anyone who asks!
Absolutely this one. I have the bones of the story fleshed out (characters, interactions, plot devices, etc.), but once the flesh starts to coat the bones, then I get to see how each piece functions with the others.
It's like building a hand from scratch, and being surprised when it works properly
I'm still too early in the story to have to kill someone off (yet), but I'm dreading the day I realize it has to happen! I'm sorry it reached that point with your book 🥲
It meant the world to hear this, especially on the first time sharing a piece of writing from the world of The Quiet Pain of a Shattered God

#FantasyIndiesApril Day 24: MC Nicknames
Lirian is called "Liri" by Hwan, and "Princess" by Grimoire.
Hwan has no nicknames as of yet.
Grimoire is called "Grim" by Lirian (in closer settings), and has yet to earn the restpect from Hwan to have a nickname from her.
As my first "published" piece, that makes my heart very happy to hear that you liked it!!! Thank you for taking the time to read it.
“Maybe,” he allowed with a small shrug. “But roots can rot. And even the deepest ones can be pulled if you know where to dig.”
- Grimoire, explaining his task in Hel, begun with holy orders, continued with personal vendetta (1/3 MC in TQPOASG)
#FantasyIndiesApril Day 23
Since the story takes place in August - and in the basement of the pyramid as well - there are no major flora or fauna to discuss.
However, the Temples of the 2nd House are known to house ever-growing vines, prompted to growth by the worship of those devoted who reside.
Not to info-dump (which I am notorious for), but this language is also only spoken by those who have been trained in the priesthood of The Flamebourne.
Therefore, Anselm uses it to communicate with his daughter when others might be listening. It's a semi-private language for them to use.
