What on God's green earth are we doing here!?
When did major events suddenly turn into a chance for agencies to fleece people?
Peak rates for an unusual event, sure, but this (like Boston) is ridiculous.
"The redesign, which would also include upgraded bike lanes and walking paths, is expected to add about [3/4th] of an acre of public space to the plaza, a 42% expansion, and significantly reduce the number of crossings — to 24, down from 39 — where pedestrians and cyclists have to dodge cars."
Manhattan and Brooklyn's top prosecutors are backing a budget proposal that would stop excessive speeders from endangering communities. empire.streetsblog.org/stop-super-s...
Faster buses are coming to Flatbush Avenue! The Mamdani administration announced today construction will resume at the end of the month to deliver protected, center-running bus lanes from Livingston Street to Grand Army Plaza. This will be a transformative upgrade for the corridor.
Not likely. Mainstream news outlets tend not to cover crashes at all unless someone dies.
Sickening.
"The Toyota driver... received 184 moving violations and parking tickets prior to the crash, and 14 SUCH VIOLATIONS IN THE MONTH SINCE THE CRASH.... Wood received a puny $250 fine for striking Thébault and her son."

Does anyone actually read those emails we send to elected officials? Or do they just disappear into a spam folder somewhere out in cyberspace? 🤔
Let's find out! We emailed @cmalexaaviles.bsky.social about Fair Fares then went to their office to see where it ended up. youtube.com/shorts/huFD3...
Big congrats to Oonee co-founder "Manman" Mansylla on designing and engineering the city's first rest stop for delivery workers. From the city's first pedestrian plaza to street seats and secure bike parking, he's been a quiet, progressive force on NYC streets for years!
New York City's 80,000 delivery workers finally have a hub to rest and charge their e-bikes.
But who's ultimately responsible for providing this much-needed infrastructure: the City, or the companies that send them out on the streets?

"Transit is 95% safer than cars, without a single algorithm. If AVs pull riders off the subway and onto robotaxi apps the safety math goes in the wrong direction. Switching passengers from cars to AVs may save lives, but taking them from transit will cost lives."

Let's hope there will be many more of these to follow!
That's insane.

This is the only way to get better bike infrastructure and maintenance.
The people in power have to actually bike (and not just an annual photo op)
We're in the midst of interviews with all four candidates. We anticipate making an endorsement in a week or so.
It was the sixth fatal crash involving a company awarded rights to operate in the new zone system. The truck belonged to Royal Waste -- which won rights to some zones after its owners made big contributions to Eric Adams' election campaign. gothamist.com/news/trash-h...
NYC is finally rolling out its latest commercial waste zone. On Sunday, the death toll from private garbage truck crashes since the reforms were announced climbed to 10. gothamist.com/news/reforms...
I wish anyone who likes riding bikes who comes to NJ to see the world cup lots of luck
A real good open street is one where you can walk six abreast and still have room for #bikenyc to get by on the right!
Enjoying today. No real filming on @34ave.bsky.social documentary but I am nearing the 45 minute finished mark, will be 1 hour+!
For the first time after 12 years biking in NYC, I was hit by a driver. Some off-duty cop with a placard on the dash and obscured license plate who made an illegal left from the center lane on a red arrow. Fortunately I was able to walk away just a bit banged up, but still an infuriating experience.
Oh great, we’re shaming drunk pedestrians now when drunk drivers still exist.
Horrible. Could this have been avoided if it wasn't taking the city a decade to roll out its commercial waste zone program? The Queens West zone hasn't been implemented yet.

“When mayors in other cities ask me how #Copenhagen afforded to invest in its cycling networks, I ask them how on earth they have been able to afford highway projects. We invested in bike lanes because that was the cheapest option.”
What the world can learn from Copenhagen’s cycling revolution.
Thanks for having us! Always fun to talk about the intersection of politics, money, and transportation policy!

Here's an idea for lowering the cost of auto insurance in New York State: actually do something about this type of blatant criminal fraud.
