What you focus on grows in the classroom. Shifting your attention to students’ effort instead of mostly their mistakes can help them build a positive mindset about learning. ☀️

Text on rocky outback landscape overlay: 3 things you can do for environmental justice this earth day.
One: sign up to email lists. It might seem like a small step, but it helps you stay directly connected to the organisations you care about. Without relying on social media algorithms to decide what you see.
Two: write a submission. Submissions are a vital part of environmental justice – they give communities a voice in decisions that affect their lives and environment, and help make sure those concerns are heard and recorded. You can take that step today by making a quick submission to the the Murray-Darling Basin Plan review.
Three: donate. Our work is only possible because people like you choose to back it Your donation powers strategic legal action that holds decision makers accountable – so the law works in practice, not just on paper.
This #EarthDay, there are simple ways to stand up for environmental justice and help create a radically better world.
None of this work happens without people like you.

Great news: in England it is #NationalTeaDay Meaning it's time for Pieter van Roestraten, a Dutch painter working in England. And, by a wonderful coincidence, he was born on this day in 1630.

Absence is harder to track and feel than presence. The ghosts of gone birds fade quickly from memory.
A turtle covered in oil is being held up by gloved hands. The image includes a quote stating, “It’s appalling that the Trump administration has authorized this deepwater drilling project without having information critical to preventing harm to marine life.” Attributed to Rachel Mathews, a senior attorney.
16 years after the Deepwater Horizon disaster — one of the worst oil spills in U.S. history — the Trump administration has approved BP’s new ultra-deepwater oil drilling project in the Gulf of Mexico.
The Center and our allies are in court to shut it down. More info: biodiv.us/3Qwjdw7

"BP’s first completely new oilfield in the Gulf since the company’s Deepwater Horizon disaster 16 years ago.
It will be deeper than Deepwater Horizon, and in riskier waters... drilling 6 miles below the sea floor, deeper than the height of Mt. Everest"

Calgary and Edmonton drove the the 'No' vote in Alberta's 2021 referendum on permanent daylight savings The question — Do you want Alberta to adopt year-round Daylight Saving Time, which is summer hours, eliminating the need to change our clocks twice a year? — was narrowly defeated by a vote of 50.2% to 49.8% provincewide. But the vote breakdown varied by geography. Source: Elections Alberta Chart: Robson Fletcher, Data & Storytelling Strategist
Albertans narrowly rejected permanent daylight saving time in a 2021 referendum.
But today Premier Danielle Smith revealed the province *is* going ahead with it anyway.
Opposition in the referendum was strongest in the biggest cities, while support was stronger in smaller towns and rural areas.

Alberta already has 4000+ orphan wells it hasn’t cleaned up — and it just got 4000+ more.
With inadequate funding from industry, this leaves Albertans to bear the harms associated with unremediated wells near their homes and businesses. #abpoli

Heat pumps, solar energy and wind can reduce or eliminate oil drilling off our coasts, strip mining and mountain top removal for coal as well as dependence on other nations for energy. Energy independence with alternative fuels and conservation can both reduce costs and negative climate impacts.

Political cartoon by Leanne W. (2026) depicting three caricatures seated around a table. On the left stands a figure resembling Donald Trump, holding a red MAGA hat and gesturing with his other hand. A speech bubble reads: “Think you fellas could help me bring more EFFECTIVE REPRESENTATION to Alberta?” In the center sits a figure resembling Danielle Smith, holding papers and smiling. On the right sits a figure in a wheelchair wearing a suit and a campaign button reading “Re-Elect Abbott 2026,” holding a rolled document. On the table is a map of Alberta with pink boundary lines labeled “Strategies,” alongside additional rolled maps or documents.
