Despite the benefits of agroforestry, cocoa landscapes in Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire remain dominated by full-sun and low-shade systems.
Average shade-tree cover is just 13%, far below the 20–40% recommended for climate resilience.

This week we have members of the Agroecology Research-Action Collective ( @adamcalo.bsky.social , Maywa Montenegro de Wit , @beniuliano.bsky.social , @alastairiles.bsky.social ) taking on the productivist roots of the "feed-the-world" approach to food security.

The fantasy of feeding the world persists because it's convenient to the status quo. It weaponizes #globalhunger to silence the voices of agrarian change. It has been a powerful ideological tool in capitalists’ efforts to maintain and extend control over nature and subaltern humans. #agroecology

Big Ag won’t stand up for its workers—only for its profits. These powerful corporations don’t mind a scared, exploitable labor force. In fact, they count on it. farmstand.org/how-big-ag-t...
Color me shocked!
There is no “waste” in the cocoa production process. Cocoa mucilage, husks, etc., generally remain on farm and recycle nutrients. This is greenwashing.
ICE recently conducted a raid of farm workers, seemingly focused on pro-union worker leaders.
On Friday in New York the federal agents stopped a bus and, armed with a list, appeared to single out those who have been doing union organizing for years.

We hear a lot about problems in farming and #foodsystems, but what about solutions?
Have you seen #agroecology in action? A farmer reclaiming land, a community building #foodsovereignty, a method that works? Share a story that gives you #hope. Here's one that made our week start on a good note 👇
Trump Admin says it wants farmers to grow more for US market & healthier food. Then, pulls rug from under farmers.

#agroecology From the Past to the Future
I sent numerous tips about #agroecolgy & #agroforestry to NPR's climate solutions reporter late last year saying these are worth covering -- turns out she was perhaps reading my messages 🙌
She produced a terrific feature on #silvopasture in Colombia & it's airing across the US today, listen here:
The federal government has historically discriminated against Black farmers. The recent funding halt from the Trump administration presents yet another hurdle to those who have spent decades fighting for equity in farming.
Given the current global financing situation, there is a need to invert the trend!
"It’s imperative that we see a massive increase in financial investments in climate and food systems transformation."
