it cannot be overemphasized that many SF & CA Democratic politicians did everything they could to pour gasoline on this fire, including encouraging SCOTUS to criminalize unsheltered homelessness for the entire nation. as with Gaza & university crackdowns, they blazed Trump’s trail for him.

a pox on the houses of everyone, in the UK, the US or elsewhere who, despite not seeing themselves as reactionaries, decided that trans kids were somehow the most important issue in the world at a time when so much else was going on, and who got their wishes now, but at what cost
If you know anything about the rollout of the anti-trans EO targeting federal inmates, please get in touch. shawn.musgrave@theintercept.com / Signal: shawnmusgrave.82
with everything coming re: water development, we need to seriously assess our risk tolerance + strategies for infrastructural disruption. not everyone can go full monkey wrench gang with it, but we need to be real that the stakes are extinction: not just for salmon and smelt, but for all of us.
yeah that one wasn't even controversial. it could be so easy
and fuck the turton company especially 🙃
it's evil! feels like watching a debris flow wipe out everything, places that have been there my whole life and survived COVID disappearing one after the other, replaced by chrome and neon. a broadway corridor effort on housing and pedestrian safety should bolster community, not annihilate it
📌 You can prepare for these risks in advance. While nobody can plan for every scenario, freedom & safety are factors under our control & we can better assert this anticipation through preparation.

the rent hikes in sac are out of control & property management companies like turton are to blame. broadway community hubs who have been there for 20yrs are having rent tripled because the new tattoo shop (bay area vibes) are willing to pay unreasonable prices while nextdoor storefronts sit empty
I love this historic #rewilding of the Klamath River, the largest dam removal in US history, in one of the most biodiverse areas in California. Returning stewardship to the Yurok restores tribal food sovereignty and better care for the river, land and wildlife.

any of you california fish folks have recommendations for salmon ecology papers you would consider fundamental or required reading?
Powerful read, thank you!

there is a specifically colonial quality to this alienation -- alienation from land and place, denial of our histories and interdependence as well as from the product of our labor power -- and I feel like I am going crazy!
reading recs absolutely welcome. who is thinking about this?
we need meaningful work: to care the land, ourselves, our neighbors, and each other. to be prevented from this basic expression of the human spirit, this denial of our capacity and hunger for connection and agency, is indescribable violence and yet totally normalized!
I am thinking a lot about alienation these days.
the distance between what my spirit calls me to do and the paths presently available in terms of work and social fabric feels absolutely unbearable. I have such clarity of conviction and the cognitive dissonance/repression is excruciating
livid and disgusted and also very afraid!
I'm hyper focused on the argument that TN SG Rice made to SCOTUS that a state can ban gender affirming care because it is non-conforming. By that logic the very act of being trans is a threat to the state
Although Assad has fallen, the tragedies in Syria continue. The Syrian National Army, a Turkish proxy force, has captured the city of Manbij and aims to storm Kobane next.
Turkey intends to conquer all Rojava and carry out ethnic cleansing there.

Instead of putting our faith in the hopes that political parties will "listen" to the very voices they are smothering, we should focus on building our own autonomous power: to organize, fight back + meet our own needs by building up strong movements, organizations + mutual aid in our communities.
Political parties are at war with their own base - attempting to smother, repress + sabotage even piecemeal reforms, while the majority of our lives become even more impoverished.
They are not representations of the people, but appendages of the corporate billionaire interests which fund them.
Trump is doubling down on calls for mass deportations, expanding draconian detention infrastructure + using police and the military to round-up millions of working-class people. This interview with @silkys13.bsky.social is essential about what to expect.
The time to organize and network is now.
