Two new Potomac Appalachian Trail Club volunteers pry out a rock in order to widen a water bar drain. Water bars are meant to divert water off the trail to prevent erosion, and by widening the drain the structure should be more effective and require less ongoing maintenance to clear out dirt and leaves.

Spring means trail work is in full swing, clearing winter blow downs and getting things ready for the summer hiking season. With more and more people showing up to volunteer, we've also been providing on-the-trail training opportunities to get folks up to speed. #hiking #AT #SNP #NPS #PATC
