A reminder that The Almighty Dollar, a product of seven years of research and writing, a book that dragged me into academia and in the direction of madness, is available on May 19th of this year. People who have read it seem to like it! www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/634502...

A Hampton Inn in Asheville just canceled my family's reservation because our address (incorrectly) showed Asheville—and the hotel bars locals within 50 miles.

When I asked why, they said, "because of our homeless population," adding that most hotels here have similar policies.

This is outrageous.

Book Review: ‘Little Bosses Everywhere,’ by Bridget Read Bridget Read’s “Little Bosses Everywhere” exposes the deceptions of direct-selling companies that make their profit not off customers but off their own sales force.

The @nytimes.com says LITTLE BOSSES EVERYWHERE "reads like a thriller," and that @bridgetgillard.bsky.social "masterfully illuminates the tricks and sleights of hand that in multilevel marketing are simply the rules of doing business."

Mittened hand holds hardcover book — “The Siege,” by Ben Macintyre — in front of classical government building in snowy landscape

Mittened hand holds hardcover book — “The Siege,” by Ben Macintyre — in front of classical government building in snowy landscape

Ben Macintyre’s latest is a gripping account of the 1980 standoff at the Iranian Embassy in London. The author takes time to describe the historical background and personalities at play, which makes the story’s climax all the more compelling. Thanks @crownpublishing.bsky.social for the free book.

The USAF removed Tuskegee Airmen & Women Airforce Service Pilots of WWII from basic training curriculum. For 30 years I promised these women I would not let them ever be forgotten again. We worked for decades to have them remembered. The Airmen too. Knowledge is power. 🗃️ www.msn.com/en-us/societ...

HERE ONE MOMENT, Liane Moriarty: The premise is irresistible--a woman on a flight from Hobart to Sydney begins predicting the age and manner of death of her fellow passengers. Beautifully written, this propulsive novel has a serious theme. Could be a great Xmas present for that special someone.

Lost Women of Science Conversations: Breaking Through Despite decades of doubt and dismissal, Katalin Karikó never gave up on the research that gave us the COVID vaccine in record time.

Katalin has devoted her life’s work to researching messenger RNA (mRNA), persevering despite decades of setbacks and dismissal. This resilience facilitated the vaccine breakthroughs that have saved millions of lives since the start of the deadliest pandemic in a century.
