I've heard many of you voice concerns that you are doing this for nothing, everyone 'seems healthy'. Diseases of the brain typically show up later in life. This virus can lead to the loss 5-10 years of healthy brain function.

SAS doctors have existed almost as long as the NHS.
There are lots of reasons why someone might choose or find themselves outside of a rotational training programme.
We aren't all the same, and nor do our careers have to be.

This year, we have worked with many organisations to support the careers of SAS and locally-employed doctors.
@assocsas.bsky.social and @assocanaes.bsky.social do a great deal to support SAS anaesthetists, and are vocal supporters of the #SASsix.

The SAS six infographic, detailing the six asks. These are focussed around professional development, the right contract for the work done, and recognising SAS potential as leaders and educators.
What is the #SASsix, you ask?
Great question!
The #SASsix is a campaign, based on the premise that no doctor in the NHS should have a career defined by their badge.
Every doctor should have the opportunity to achieve their potential as senior independent doctors, leaders and educators.

Finally ✍️
Do what is right for *you*.
Periodically, review your options and what you want from your life & career.
Circumstances change.
Top tip?
Talk about how you are feeling and find out as much as you can about your options.
You are not alone.

10:Professional registrations 🏢
Consider maintaining GMC registration w/o licence to practise, and indemnity for Good Samaritan acts.
Check with your indemnity provider - if you have been kept 'on the books' it may help you to secure full indemnity cover in the future.
9:Consider pay & pension 💷
Keep all payslips/P60/P45 etc.
Request a pension statement.
Check whether you will need to return within a specified time for your pension continuity to be maintained.
Keep a record of your communications with the pension provider.
