Biochemical Regulation of Brain Kynurenic Acid Synthesis and Inhibition in Rats Is Sensitive to the Time of Day Neurochemical imbalances, including elevations of the tryptophan metabolite kynurenic acid (KYNA), an endogenous antagonist of glutamatergic and cholinergic receptors, are linked to cognitive and slee...

📢🌟New paper in ACS Chemical Neuroscience! 📢🌟
pubs.acs.org/doi/10.1021/...

Congrats to @courtney-wright.bsky.social (first-author)!

KYNA (linked to 🧠😴) varies with time of day, and KAT II inhibition is more effective in the active (dark) phase.
Timing matters for neurochemical therapies!

New deep learning tool allows automated analysis of sleep patterns using EEG data
New deep learning tool allows automated analysis of sleep patterns using EEG data YouTube video by NPP - Digital Psychiatry and Neuroscience (DPN)

Our latest Deep Dive covers a study that developed a deep learning model to classify sleep stages from single channel EEG recordings in rats🐀. It predicted key parameters of sleep architecture, reducing the need for labor-intensive manual annotation.

Just spoke to The Hill about how the dismantling of the NIH is impacting science in America. We still face a cliff of unfathomable heights, w easily 1000+ labs poised to close in the next year due to funding ending. A generation of young scientists lost because there is nowhere for them to train.

Why we need basic science to better understand the neurobiology of psychedelics Despite the many psychedelics clinical trials underway, there is still much we don’t know about how these drugs work. Preclinical studies represent our best viable avenue to answer these lingering…

@deffinger.bsky.social and @melissaherman.bsky.social argue that, though many human psychedelic clinical trials are underway, preclinical studies remain our best bet to answer fundamental questions about the neurobiology of psychedelics.

‘Completely shattered.’ Changes to NSF’s graduate student fellowship spur outcry The announcement comes months later than usual, leaving many would-be applicants stranded

NSF today released instructions for the next round of applicants to its Graduate Research Fellowship Program. A key group—second-year Ph.D. students—is no longer eligible, and students who are still able to apply will face an unusually narrow timeframe. https://scim.ag/3KlQkQk

EXCLUSIVE: A new analysis by The Xylom's @alexip718.com shows for the first time just how much America’s top research institutions have grown to depend on H-1B skilled workers — and how this delicate balance might be disrupted by U.S. President Donald Trump’s crackdown on legal immigration.
