This is my go-to paper to point out that significant long-distance trade in wildlife is an ancient phenomenon- here macaws were traded from AD 700 from Meso into North America. Advocates of reintroductions of charismatic species based on sparse remains often conveniently overlook the role of trade.

Gosh, who knows where people is at. I miss the old times when everyone was at a single spot sharing scientsy and nerdy inquiries. Now a lot left, and the remaining are split among dozens of social networks.

‘I rarely get outside’: scientists ditch fieldwork in the age of AI In the race to embrace new technologies, some ecologists fear their field is losing touch with nature.

New technologies are revolutionising ecology, with more data than ever available at our fingertips. But what are the costs and perils of ecologists doing less field work?

Things I love about bluesky:
1) Limited advertisement, I mostly see content I care about. 2) Friendly environment.

Things that still need a lot of improvement:
1) A larger Spanish-speaking community 2) The feeling I am reaching a small, mostly science focused bubble.

I’m recruiting a PhD and MSC student for fall 2026 working on the movement ecology and conservation of Mexican spotted owls in SW forests and rocky canyonlands. Exciting partnership with Los Alamos National Laboratory. Great vibrant lab group, high impact research! 🦉

I'm excited to announce this new study, published in The Lancet Planetary Health, which explores public support for degrowth and ecosocialist transformation. The findings are quite surprising.

Va a hacer cuatro años que la estación biológica arrancaba en un lugar mágico de los Andes. Fotón de Juan Repucci en las noches de incontables estrellas a 4500 m. Y si, esta temporada repintamos el bañito.

No, we actually believe orientation of the outcrop is important, and yes, the unmarked group may be a good spot to look for advice. Thanks!

Looking for advice, blueskyers: Have you ever used a circular covariate in an occupancy model? What worked best for you?

We’ve lost a giant. He was always very kind and encouraging to me as a young #kelp forest ecologist. Go listen to @futureecologies.bsky.social’s kelp series for a wonderful episode where he tells the stories behind his classic work. www.futureecologies.net/kelpworlds

May his memory be a blessing.

Gracias 💜
