A. We use the adaptive dynamics framework to make theoretical predictions of evolutionary trajectory under trade-offs between growth parameters. B. We assess these predictions using forward simulations mapping the trajectory of evolution on varying the supply of mutations (mutation rate, supply of trait-increasing mutations (mutation bias), and mutation effect size), and calculate new quantities not available in adaptive dynamics, such as time-dependent fixation rates and the time to reach an Evolutionary Stable Strategy (ESS).

Reappraisal of the extinct barbelthroat shark †Bavariscyllium and the nebulous origin of carcharhiniform galeomorphs - Communications Biology Reassessment of the Jurassic shark †Bavariscyllium challenges understanding of early galeomorph evolution, showing these sharks explored diverse body forms, predating the divergence of most major body plans among modern representatives.

A reappraisal of the extinct prehistoric barbelthroat shark, Bavariscyllium, calls into question previous assumptions about the evolution of modern sharks. The findings are published in Communications Biology. 🧪 #evosky #ecoevo #paleobio

I'm getting real sick and tired of journals referring me to either a) the authors or b) data dryad, when I inquire after a paper's data, that was promised in the data statement.

Surely, if data archiving is promised, the journal and publisher have a responsibility for seeing this through. #ecoevo

Why are Magnoliaceae so diverse in the tropics? Maps and photographs integrate phylogeographic data, fish fauna distributions, and geomorphic evidence, with a specific focus on the hanging valley tributaries and trunk streams in the eastern Himalayan syntaxis to illustrate the reconstruction of drainage evolution of the Yarlung Tsangpo-Brahmaputra River. Genetic analyses support a two-stage river capture model: an ancestral Yarlung–Dingba–Brahmaputra river was captured by the Siang River during the Late Miocene, and subsequently, the Yigong–Parlung–Zayul river was captured by the lower Yarlung Tsangpo in the Quaternary.
