Today's task is to finish burning some of the emergency candles I lit yesterday when the power went out

Thinking about how one of the most valuable things I've learned from trying to write is that I just have to sit with the discomfort and frustration of not being able to write, and persist with the attempt anyway, until I finally get something done no matter how small and incremental it may be.

We are, alas, going in the opposite direction from Oregon this time, but yes, New Jersey is where we failed to learn how to pump our own gas

In three weeks(!) I'm going to be heading out on a 500-mile drive with my mom and my cat. None of the three of us know how to pump gas.
