New gas projects linked to just 11 data center campuses around the US have the potential to create more greenhouse gases than the country of Morocco emitted in 2024. Emissions estimates from air permit documents examined by WIRED show that these natural gas projects—which are being built to power data centers to serve some of the US’s most powerful AI companies, including OpenAI, Meta, Microsoft, and xAI—have the potential to emit more than 129 million tons of greenhouse gases per year.

"Even if the actual emissions from these power plants end up being half of the emissions numbers on the permits, they still could create more greenhouse gas emissions than the country of Norway emitted in 2024"

Always find it amusing that these knuckle-dragging racists genuinely can't get it into their heads that many of us are positive about immigration *precisely* because we do indeed have friends, family, neighbours from different backgrounds...

A group of Ecuadorian fishermen survived a US drone strike, were detained at gunpoint, phones wiped, ship blown up, disappeared to El Salvador, then released without charge. “They knew we were fishermen. Even the Salvadorian authorities said things had been handled very badly.”

Nigel Farage calls for parking charges to be scrapped on North East high streets Reform UK leader Nigel Farage was on the campaign trail on high streets in South Shields and Gateshead on Tuesday, ahead of May's local council elections

In Newcastle on street parking costs the council £9,260,871.63 per year.
If on street parking is 'free' that would still be a cost that needs to be covered. It's roughly the same as a 6% rise in council tax, on top of existing rises.

New university free speech complaints system to come into force this year Universities could face fines of £500,000 or 2% of their income if they are found to have failed to protect free speech.

This reporting suggests Bridget Phillipson's legislation will muzzle those of us who want to protest against Far Right speakers who say our Black family are intellectually inferior and our Trans family are all potential sex offenders and are mentally ill.

What an unbelievably terrible Government.

A water recycling plant Elon Musk promised to build in Memphis to offset the huge amount of local drinking water Grok's data centre devours has been postponed indefinitely.

Apparently, Musk considers drinking water for local people less of a priority than increasing computing power for Grok👇🏾

Of course they are concentration camps. And @anatosaurus.bsky.social is right that once you accept the euphemism you are halfway to normalizing the thing.

I went and watched the segment on iPlayer. This is absolutely wild. It’s basically doing a free micro political broadcast for Reform during BBC Breakfast.

Following on from last week's bs "investigation" which absolutely misrepresented the scale and nature of people potentially claiming asylum under false grounds, it is exceptionally hard to see how this is in any way acceptable and not blatant bias. This is an advert not a news piece.

I checked this too.

*20 seconds* of Reform logo display.

*No other* party logo displayed.

In local election purdah.

This is not normal. At all.

OMFG I had to go and check that this ACTUALLY happened.

Since when does the BBC ever do chyrons with a political party's branding, rather than their own? Not to mention this is during a pre-election campaign purdah.

Power without accountability: The Palantir manifesto The problems with our tech philosopher kings

New, from me: Take the Palantir manifesto seriously, if not literally.
It reveals that our tech philosopher kings want public money, but without public accountability. This creates a dilemma for governments unaligned with its techno-fascist vision. 🧵

'Terrified of rent increase': How housing benefit cuts hit renters The government froze local housing allowance, which effectively meant a real-terms cut to housing benefit. This is what it means for renters

NEW: More than 160,000 private renters on low incomes face rent shortfalls worth up to hundreds or even thousands of pounds a year due to Labour’s housing benefit cuts

Greater Manchester and the West Midlands are particularly badly hit

«To say that the verbiage and phrasing of this ad functions as a dog whistle for White supremacy and White nationalism would be an insult to dog whistles ... it is a bullhorn—and a sign that Palantir isn’t just willing to openly signal allegiance to fascism, they aim to leverage and recruit on it.»

Starmer's disastrous '£1bn' US-UK pharma deal may actually end up costing £64bn Investigation finds that Starmer's estimates of the Trump NHS deal are way off - it won't cost £1bn but could balloon to as much as £64bn

While we're on the workings of the UK government today, a moment to reflect on the US pharmaceuticals deal which even if these numbers feel exaggerated is something that really needs parliamentary scrutiny that successive governments have denied for trade deals www.thecanary.co/uk/analysis/...

Thinking Live with Phillips O'Brien on War in Iran and Ukraine A recording from my conversation with Phillips O'Brien

But NICE denied it in England, Wales & NI, saying we’re not “cost effective.”
We’ve lost friends waiting.
As of April 2026, the money is now there. We need to drug companies to resubmit Enhertu immediately.

When Angela Rayner underpaid £40,000 in stamp duty, Richard Tice said it was "morally completely indefensible” and she should resign if she had “any moral decency”.

Now we learn he set up four shell companies that let him avoid paying £100,000 he owed in tax and to then transfer the cash to Reform
