Despite previous promises to rewild Falinge Common, @rbhhomes.bsky.social are planning to mow it this week.

This will destroy habitats, and kill essential pollinators.

It will also remove much needed protection from noise and pollution coming from the busy road.

This grassland on Lower Falinge is trying its hardest to be a wildflower meadow to attract the πŸ¦‹πŸžπŸ
But it keeps getting fully mowed so it's struggling

Lovely that some areas of grass on College Bank seem to have been left to allow the flowers & wildlife to thrive.
Hope this is the start of a #NoMowSummer
It's good to have a mix of lawn & mini-meadow #Mowsaic

Text reads:

Greater Manchester Tenants Union Opposes Demolitions on Lower Falinge.

So far the disastrous social cleansing plans, proposed and initiated by the discredited former management of RBH, and now continued by the unaccountable new regime of this rogue social landlord, have already led to a loss of 204 Social Rent homes on Lower Falinge, with ongoing discrimination against vulnerable tenants, and the destruction and displacement of the most diverse community in central Rochdale.

If the demolition goes ahead:

128 social rent homes will be lost in total - a waste of valuable
existing assets.

32 accessible homes will be lost - a disproportionate negative
impact on disabled people.

64 family homes will be lost - a disproportionate negative impact
on children.

There are no plans to replace the lost homes - reducing the
number of homes in the town centre.

There are currently over 22,000 people on Rochdale’s housing waiting list.

Temporary accommodation costs have more than doubled recently
to Β£4.6 million per year.

2 large expanses of urban green space providing safe, secure
amenity/play areas will be lost.

Mature trees and shrubs will also be lost - safe urban roost,
nest and foraging sites for many bird species and bats will be
lost - huge negative impact upon urban biodiversity and pollinator
habitat.

There will be unnecessary and prolonged disruption to existing
tenants and residents.

Take action now - using the details overleaf, visit the planning portal,
sign our petition or write to your councillors to make your voices heard.
