Recently I revisited a 1/2 acre site to carry out the annual hay cut, where two years ago, I created a wildflower meadow & wildlife pond from a piece of mown grass. It’s now a thriving habitat that’s full of invertebrates, mammals, amphibians and many bird species. #NoMowSummer
A beautiful day for cutting hay! Managing one of the many #wildflowermeadows that I’ve created over the last 20 years. This one has 31 recorded butterfly species and has the same floral diversity as SSSI grassland. All on less than an acre. #Meadow #NoMowSummer
Das Wichtigste im Leben ist immer noch, dass die Nachbarn den gepflegten Rasen loben.

A few recent photos from the garden. There’s so many pollinators especially since the buddleia flowered. I spotted 6 different species of butterfly one day including comma (NFG). There’s so many soldier beetles in the meadow area.

If you truly want to make a place for ground nesting #Birds in your yard, you wouldn’t mow you wouldn’t blow you wouldn’t edge you wouldn’t trim, you wouldn’t tidy, through at least the end of August. #NoMowSummer

I think there was an explosion in a Ladybird factory!😳😍 Actually can’t believe how many hundreds of them there are, currently in the longer #NoMowSummer area of my garden (which is rapidly turning into the WHOLE garden!). One of the many benefits of no pesticides/weedkiller 🐞
Over 100 #northernmarsh & #commonspotted hybrid orchids in the garden plus 10 cuckooflower

This June, don't destroy everything you invited in during May
Maker it #NoMowSummer don't destroy everything you invited on to the lawn in May
Lovely that some areas of grass on College Bank seem to have been left to allow the flowers & wildlife to thrive.
Hope this is the start of a #NoMowSummer
It's good to have a mix of lawn & mini-meadow #Mowsaic

Just one of the many benefits of having a #NoMowSummer lawn/wildflower meadow, is seeing these voracious predators… This, believe it or not, is the larval form of our beautiful little Ladybirds! Enjoying the many aphids on offer in my #wildflower #Mowsaic of a #wildlifegarden 🐞
Cardiff’s nature-friendly ‘one cut’ mowing is back!
144 sites (equal to 272 football pitches) will go unmown until Sept – helping pollinators & biodiversity thrive.
89% of sites now support over 11 species – a real success story.

#NoMowSummer - we all need to make it truly worthwhile. Don't invite all that life into the garden and then destroy it on 1st June
Beautiful light across my #NoMowSummer #wildflowermeadow this evening ☀️🌅 #Mowsaic #WildlifeGarden
Cowslips in my front garden. #nomowmay #nomowsummer #wildplants
Does it make a person odd if they get excited by long grass?! 😆 Do yourselves a favour people, ditch mowing the majority of your lawn & just mow a few paths. The #wildlife will benefit, you will save time AND money & it looks great too! Oh, & not just for MAY! #NoMowSummer
In the latest in a seemingly daily butterfly series of #PlantItAndTheyWillCome I arrived home to find a speckled wood laying eggs on the long grass. #NoMowSummer #NoMowMay @savebutterflies.bsky.social

When we learn new information, we update our guidance: That's good evidence-based practice! Hence, No Mow May is updated to #NoMowSummer.

The arch nemesis of the lawn enthusiast and the neat & tidy brigade…. Ground Ivy, in all its beautiful glory, flowering in profusion in my #NoMowSummer #WildlifeGarden, where it will live out its life to be the plant it wants to be 💚😍 #Wildflowers
For the last 20+ years, this 200y/o Georgian house has had ALL its grass cut regularly. Since moving in at the end of March, I’ve now chosen my paths & have started the long journey of turning this 1 acre plot into a haven for #wildlife. Here’s to a #NoMowSummer 💚
Cowslips & Primroses still in their pomp & last of Snakeshead Fritillaries hanging on.
Lots of foliage of the other #Wildflowers emerging. Already filled with insects & pollinators.

We’re already reaping the benefits of last year’s #NoMowSummer. The sunniest patch of our old lawn is covered in Celandines and self-sown Primroses. #FlowersOnFriday @plantlifeuk.bsky.social
I don’t do #NoMowMay anymore, but I do #NoMowSummer , cutting lawns to 3 different lengths to ensure a #Mowsaic of #Wildflowers #Fungi #Biodiversity & #Habitat for #Insects & #Pollinators
