It's a 4 core Intel Core i5-6300HQ while the GPU is a GTX 1060M with 3GB of VRAM. It's a repurposed 2016 Asus FX502VM gaming laptop.

Thanks for the correction! With LXC it's device sharing, not traditional passthrough. My issue was the Nvidia 550 driver failing to compile against Proxmox's kernel 6.17. Outside of Linux gaming via SteamOS and Bazzite, Im pretty new to Linux. Still learning what these terms mean and how they work 😅

I'm using CPU + RAM. I believe I can't use GPU passthrough on this setup because it's a laptop running Proxmox. Passing the GPU to the Ollama LXC would make it unavailable to the other VMs I'm running. I'm pretty new to this, so I could be wrong. I'm still learning 😅.

Ph4-mini is running at 9.31 tokens/s while Deepseek-R1:1.5b runs at 20.79 tokens/s. Not bad for a 10-year-old gaming laptop with only 16GB of RAM

The RAM usage during inference usually stays around 4GB as well. The huge RAM spike in the screenshot was when I was running Gemma4

Turned my old gaming laptop into a homelab. Running Proxmox with VMs and LXCs, and now running open-source LLMs (Phi4-mini & Deepseek-R1) locally via Ollama + Open WebUI.

Next step: integrating them into actual cybersecurity labs and projects.
