After #FNDAwareness, there are common questions among therapists and MDs:
What do I say?
What should we do during episodes?
How do we support school participation and recovery?
We created this pediatric FND diagnosis packet to help:

Our paper is out today!!! (not an April fool's day joke) Congrats to authors @azulsilva.bsky.social, @belalima-paiva.bsky.social, Ele Pronier, and mostly to the amazing scientist and human being who led this project @facuumm.bsky.social

#eNeuro Blog | Reviewing Editor Adrien Peyrache highlights the work from Khouma et al., which explores a neuropeptide released by sleep-active neurons in the hypothalamus that promotes wakefulness by inhibiting histaminergic neurons.

Are memories in your brain distributed or local? How did early experiments in the late 1940s address this? Join me this week with neuroscientist Nicole Rust (nicolecrust.bsky.social), author of "Elusive Cures", as we discuss the modern emerging picture of the brain.

A New Framework for Functional Neurological Disorder: When the Brain’s Confidence Falters
A New Framework for Functional Neurological Disorder: When the Brain's Confidence Falters A new theoretical framework published in *Brain* reframes functional neurological disorder (FND) as a disorder of…
1/"The distinction between diseases of 'brain' and 'mind', between 'neurological' problems and 'psychological' or psychiatric ones is an unfortunate cultural inheritance the permeates society and medicine,
A while ago I gave a talk at the London Medical Society on “functional” vs “organic” illness (it was rough, I was nervous).
Now Ben Stecher, an awesome Parkinson’s advocate-researcher, analyzes it in this lovely blog post to examine overlap of FND + PD
Delighted! 🙏

Check out this @nature.com paper on how the brain’s functional hierarchy evolves from birth to 100. Infants' gradient architecture is anchored by sensory systems, differentiates along association and control axes during childhood/adolescence & dedifferentiates in aging

Environmental context can shape how our brains function! 🌟New work🌟 led by all-stars @niaberrian.bsky.social and @monicarosenb.bsky.social shows that environmental exposures in youth are reflected in brain networks that keep our attention focused! 🧠🌲

Pleased to share our article reporting routine clinical outcomes of the South London & Maudsley specialist cognitive behavioural therapy service for #FND. Patients reported significant improvements in distress, functioning & cognitive-behavioural symptom responses www.frontiersin.org/journals/psy...
This workbook is aimed at kids and teenagers but honestly I think it’s a really practical resource for anyone with FND. Highly recommend!

I was asked by @braincomms to highlight their FND special collection which welcomes clinical and neuroscience research on every aspect of the condition.
A chance to reflect on how FND has moved from miscellaneous to mainstream

Stanley Spencer painted about a dozen landscapes in and around Leonard Stanley in Gloucestershire during the early 1940s. The village, not far from Stroud, contains the remains of a Benedictine priory which lies at the foot of the Cotswold escarpment.
Very much agree with the points made here!
I especially appreciate how apprehension re: FND often flips into inspiration when clinicians see the tangible good they can do

Can machine learning really beat classic stats at classifying chronic pain?
Excited to share the first in our series of papers using hypothesis-driven analyses to identify reproducible, verifiable biomarkers of chronic pain. We validated findings across three cohorts (N=197).

New guidance on management of functional seizures, some key points:
✅Clear diagnosis to universal standard
✅Psychological treatments help
✅Continuity of care important
✅Screen for comorbid epilepsy
🚫Antiseizure meds or Benzodiazepines do not help
