Pete has probably never heard of Spanish Influenza
I just drop this here: Spanish Influenza
They are available for free. The watermark keeps a small group of people from copy & pasting my hard work & money as their own.
I can use more obvious watermarks or photos stay hidden from the public. Both are much worse options than what I do. You don’t like it, but accept it or scroll on.
You’re welcome to disagree with my approach. I did not take many of the snapshots, but neither did Getty Images. If a author asked for a clean image for an article & or book, I would provided it as long as my collection is properly cited. I wasn’t the first nor I will I be the last to watermark.
Most of the posted photos cost time & money to collect. They are not copied from other social media sources. Too many people have copied my work as their own, so I unfortunately use watermarks now.

I have never dived on a wreck. A internet friend dived on Prinz Eugen a number of years ago. Thanks for sharing a bit of that experience.
I am lucky that I have museum ship in my community I can visit anytime I want.

The Kriegsmarine did use Kaiserliche Marine recognition circles on major warships. Neither SMS or KMS were used by the Kriegsmarine for naval ships.
Likely early 1940, the battleship Gneisenau heads to the Baltic Sea for artillery raining at the A.K.V.S. Center. Note the Kaiserliche Marine recognition circle atop Turret Anton.
