Thank you for the shout-out, Sparrow! ❤️
Maire Brennan (Clannad) dead at 73. :'( How I loved her singing and her harp playing. Such a huge part of my life. There is a hole in the world now.
But also, it's Lloyd Owen's 60th birthday -- my Captain, Elendil, hero and inspiration. Welcome to the 60s, Lloyd.

He is risen! Estel is a Thing. May the Resurrection of Jesus give you hope as you navigate the dark places of this world, the dark nights of the soul. Eternal truth, hope of the most real kind.
He. Is. Risen.

I guess Mira is the deut, though she's almost as important as Ari. They're married, they met when he was in port from a stint at sea (naval officer), ordinary day that became extraordinary. Getting involved with each other, definitely good. They need each other!

Statement from Martin Luther King III & Arndrea Waters King on the passing of Reverend Jesse Jackson
Courtship has phases, from casual friends to exclusive couple, to betrothal then marriage. Marriage is a solemn oath, lifetime bond, sacred. Two people only. For most of the people it's equal partnership. One faction believes men are head, women are submissive.

Ari gazed into her eyes. “Forever, then, my Star-Girl? Shall we belong to each other forever?”
“Forever,” Mira whispered against his lips. “From the moment we met throughout all the days ahead, and into eternity.”

Ari and Mira are the most adorable couple in the history of everything. But they're not sickly sweet. Just a man and a woman made for each other, loving each other through trauma and war and alien invasion -- and a PITA son. Ari's Star-Girl, Mira's Beloved. Pieces of each others' souls.
No. They come from a temperate coastal region.
These would be Summer Olympics:
Ari would be doing sailing.
Mira in archery
Ro - long distance running, but not marathon
Lyr - watching
Kir - as far away as possible

She's amazing with it. Comes from years of friendly competition with her older brother.
Just one. They're not super easy to make at their technology level, so the supply is limited.
Ari is a naval captain and very disciplined. He's proficient with a sword and flintlock barb-shot pistol, passing fair with a longbow. Very strategic. Very deadly in battle. And do not mess with his wife or kids.

Mira is a spiritual leader, but she's extremely proficient with a longbow, and knows how to use a sword. Forced into battle, she's not someone you'd want to be fighting against. But she hates fighting. Only does it when her family/people are in danger. Afraid of Ari's pistol.

Yes! For fairness, for grace and compassion, for egalitarianism and for seeing people as precious and worthy, no matter who or what they are.
Her hands enveloped his face and she gazed deeply into his eyes. “You have redeemed the failure of your father multiple times over this day, Ariden. I beg you to release yourself from the bonds that memory has laid upon you and be freed."

A lot more than I realized at first, I think. And it doesn't show up in the more obvious parallel ways, but it informs a lot of the worldbuilding and some of the plot.
I haven't set anything in Kulidar yet. Not sure if we'll spend any time there.
There are three -- Eniath, where the Den-Aronel live, Karra, the indigenous one, and Kulidar.
Alien invasions often are. 😉
They so belong together. I love their fleeting romance!
But there are people like that in every generation. A lot of younger people are MAGA. Many of my friends in my generation, and I, deplore what's happening now and all the other awful things that harm people in any country.
Not really, not during the War. He was too busy running the "What-ifs" and thinking about battle plans and such. He slept better at home in Mira's arms.
Oh, yes! The family is still all alive, but they lost hundreds of villagers, including beloved grandparents and friends.
There is an entire continent of harsh desert and another that is polar and too cold for anyone to live on. So two out of five continents are not habitable.

“It’s all right.” She beamed at him and embraced him more tightly. “I love you no matter what you smell like. You’re the best Fathi in the whole of the universe, and I am so glad…so glad you didn’t die today.”

For Ari, "home" is his wife's heart. But also...their coastal village that was destroyed by alien invaders. Now living inside a mountain, he feels acutely the loss of the freedom of their home village and the sea.

Mira will bring an egg stir-up with veggies. I'm recovering from GI nonsense so no food from me today.
