War on Iran disrupts efforts to save the Asiatic cheetah, world’s rarest big cat Before the war began in February 2026, there was some rare good news for Iran’s imperiled Asiatic cheetahs. Rangers spotted and filmed a female in the North Khorasan province accompanied by five cubs…

Fewer than 30 Asiatic cheetahs remain in the wild, all in Iran.

While the subspecies has been protected since 1959, war and sanctions are now disrupting vital conservation efforts, leaving the world’s rarest big cat on the brink of extinction.

Illustration of two armadillos labeled "Chlamyphorus Truncatus, Native of Chili." One armadillo is fully visible, standing on rocks with a segmented, armored shell covering its back and head, long claws, and a pointed snout. The second armadillo is partially hidden, curled into a ball with its armored shell prominently shown. Surrounding them are detailed engravings of rocks, grass, and bushes, set against a neutral background. The image is a vintage naturalist's plate from 1833, rendered with fine lines and subtle color on the armored sections.

We formed Project Glasswing because of capabilities we’ve observed in a new frontier model trained by Anthropic that we believe could reshape cybersecurity. Claude Mythos Preview is a general-purpose, unreleased frontier model that reveals a stark fact: AI models have reached a level of coding capability where they can surpass all but the most skilled humans at finding and exploiting software vulnerabilities.

Mythos Preview has already found thousands of high-severity vulnerabilities, including some in every major operating system and web browser. Given the rate of AI progress, it will not be long before such capabilities proliferate, potentially beyond actors who are committed to deploying them safely. The fallout—for economies, public safety, and national security—could be severe. Project Glasswing is an urgent attempt to put these capabilities to work for defensive purposes.

That does sound very concerning. And in this case, I don‘t think it is just hype. Otherwise they would not share this stuff with Google, Amazon, Microsoft, Oracle et al.
