Yeah that sounds a reasonable hypothesis, but it's hard to say without the data i guess. Likely only gonna be possible to dissect any regîme shifts after the fact

And I think it's quite clear we'll miss 1.5 and likely 2 without serious change - its still just about geophysically possible but one look at the world will tell you how politically feasible it is...

I'd say it's just the upward heating trend with natural variability superimposed on top. Average temps keep climbing and poss el niño might add a couple tenths of a °C - either way i imagine 2026 will be hot again. Causes might be similar to 2023/24 but not exactly the same

Very, very fun to be back on stage again.

Watch out - cos this show's comin' for ya!

North Sea Fossil Fuels: just what we don’t need
North Sea Fossil Fuels: just what we don’t need YouTube video by Dr Gilbz

Extracting more fossil fuels from the north sea is dumb AF.

For SO many reasons... not least this whole climate change thing.

Yikes! Yet another reason to get to net zero faster (as if we needed any more)

wow that's cool! What are the max global/Arctic temps reached in each of those two scenarios?

Very excited to share the published form of our new #OpenAccess study: doi.org/10.1088/1748... (led by @bortingjong.bsky.social).

Given significant increases in Northeast U.S. extreme precipitation trends, we then test responses to rapid greenhouse drawdowns using a 25-km resolution climate model.

Just had a quick look – looks super interesting. Haven't looked much at SSP 5–3.4 before. It's cool to see the effect of aggressive mitigation starting to emerge in the data by the latter decades of the century

Start-up asked for regulation changes to allow controversial marine carbon storage Gigablue applied for permission to put a thousand tonnes of its particles in New Zealand waters - but was told its plans amounted to marine dumping.

We are decades away from knowing if deploying marine CO₂ removal is safe and effective. Now is the time for research but not deployment.

📣 Climate scientists!

The UK is talking about North Sea oil & gas again. Obviously, that's a dumb idea if we want a liveable planet.

I've written an open letter to UK party leaders, here: docs.google.com/document/d/1...
