Exquisite Undead: An Anthology of Vampires A genre-blending collection of vampire fiction.

My vampire anthology, EXQUISITE UNDEAD, is more than halfway funded! There's a very good chance that this anthology is happening, but I still need your help to push to the finish line.

Support the project now and get some cool stuff (including my eternal gratitude!):

#FantasyIndiesApril 14: How would your characters describe themselves?

It's the Triempery series' final book.
They would probably all describe themselves as busy!

Five covers of novels. Text excerpt from sixth book.

Dorilian grimaced. A haunted look returned to his gaze, pain and memories of pain. “In that council, just now, I tasted their hatred. Their anger and fear. Their cunning. I didn’t feel these things in Amallar because the Khelds didn’t hate Thron. They only hate me. For a time, I convinced myself I could erase their hatred… or escape it. Now their anger reminds me why I could not abide Stefan. Every time I was with him, I felt his rage that I existed at all. It was like breathing poison. I could not be in the same room.”

“He was afraid,” Hans said in his brother’s defense.

“I knew that too, and I used it against him. It was so easy to do. I was younger then… and angry at being wronged. Not only by him. Stefan’s were the least of the insults I bore, the hurts I took. But he was the one who refused to get out of my way.” Dorilian picked up a stone, its dark shape reflecting little light, then casually flung it into the night. Together they listened to it strike the slope below, a small sound, quickly vanished. “We wounded each other, a kind of sport, and schemed to achieve petty victories which I knew meant nothing. For a time, I enjoyed being his enemy. I’d been hated my whole life so what did it matter? It got worse though. The price got too high. It does not matter now.”

Maybe Dorilian believed in his own jadedness and had convinced himself he did not mind the hatreds and fears sent against him. Only by employing such a distortion could he venture out into the World. The truth could not be unmade; it could only be hung around his neck. But Hans read the emotion underneath the words.

Dorilian was tired. Tired of encountering it all over again. Tired of putting up walls against feeling, adding layers of indifference against sensations and emotions he deeply craved. What was it like to feel so richly and yet have to numb oneself to survive? No wonder the Highborn had embraced both godhood and isolation.

Today is Book Quote Wednesday and the word is TIRED.

This is a portion of a key scene (but not a spoiler) from THE RILL LORD, the final book of the Triempery series (April 2026). Dorilian is tired. He has every reason to be after six books! #bookqw #epicfantasy #WritingCommunity

I know I haven’t been on in a while but I came to say….
I’m finishing up 2025 with a total of 222 books read. I might be more active next year but idk.
I’ve been enjoying being offline to just read what I want to read without all the chaos that comes with being an online bookish account.

I DNFd it.

Not sure why people said it’s good when scenes repeat, it’s boring, has nothing to offer, etc.

But shoutout to the library for buying the book. So I didn’t have to.

Up to page 184. So, quick update.

Book needs a better editor. It’s riddled with spelling mistakes and grammatical issues.
Some of the serious scenes I find utterly hilarious with how cringey they are.

It’s early and I’m extremely tired.
But I’ve been thinking while I get ready for work is about what food plants I want to plant next year.
I’m thinking Jalapeños. Like… a whole bunch of them.

Just so people are aware.

I was informed that apparently this author is problematic.
I didn’t know that at the time I read this and posted this.

Awe, Thank you. I wanted to DNF so bad but for some reason I couldn’t bring myself to do it.

They do and the last one I read took me all of September to read and ponder over because it had 18,700 ish pages(kindle).

5 months ago 1 0 1 0

It is.
But it always happens when I read a plethora of classics/poems.

5 months ago 1 0 1 0

As for the characters… meh.

I’m not deep enough into the book to have much of an opinion about them yet. They are kinda just there.

But… this is about it for the first 130 ish pages.

5 months ago 0 0 0 0

It has a nice blend of world building, story progression, background information on the characters, etc all happening simultaneously.
However, it is progressing slowly and I do wish it would quicken.

5 months ago 0 0 1 0

Now, there are some aspects I enjoy. The world building is… good (so far).

The magic system is good, but not really explained and those that are not accustomed to this type of fantasy will be utterly lost.

Back to world building: there is a lot going on but it’s not all at once.

But… on top of that the book is Sooooooooo repetitive and I’m only 130ish pages in. That alone is annoying. Like… if I had a dollar every time the the word “red” has been used. I could pay this months phone bill.
There are also repetitive scenes with slight differences.

Like….

Reading thread 🧵 for the Bookclub’s CR:
So, this weekend we are told to finish Part One before Wednesday. Which part one has 270 pages (and it’s do able). I just don’t feel motivated to do so… yeah.

Don’t judge a book by its cover, but this is a pretty cool cover! The book was great, too, Tchaikovsky ( @aptshadow.bsky.social ) is one of my favorite sci-fi writers… his stuff is always a nice combo of tech & humanity.
