Its time to ensure the legitimate concerns of ethnic minorities in Britain – about a concerted effort to dissolve foundational social norms against racism + deny our status as equal citizens – are heard too

We should *reject* excessive pessimism about pushing bsck

Charities employ 1.25M staff and rely on 6.5M volunteers, no wonder they need HR expertise on their boards! Have you got HR skills? You could make a real impact as a #trustee. Check out some current roles in our video or browse more here: buff.ly/o1UTEA4 #Volunteering

Some people on the left have argued politics is destined to become 'blame the migrants vs blame the rich'.

Fair or not, this binary turns out to be a surprisingly useful question for dividing the country right down the middle!

Look at the generational splits, madness.

Janet Thorne: Volunteering is thriving – just not where you’ve been looking There is a consensus that volunteering is in decline, but news of its death has been greatly exaggerated

"Recent reports claim that there is a growing shortage of volunteers, but this is not a universal experience" - @janetthorne.bsky.social

Volunteering is not in decline. On the contrary, it is thriving in many grassroots organisations. But it is a different kind of relationship as I explain in this blog 👇

I’ve written for @thespectator1828.bsky.social about people’s stories in focus groups of how they’ve turn inward and become less social since the pandemic and the risk it leaves us lonelier, more isolated less cohesive and less open to new experiences. www.spectator.co.uk/article/were...

A really excellent discussion of what's desperately needed more than anything else: a vision of what we want our world to look like. Please read, share and consider.

Screenshot of a BBC Politics tweet shows Chancellor Rachel Reeves speaking at a podium during a live broadcast of her speech. The quote at the top reads, “We are reducing the environmental requirements placed on developers when they pay into a nature restoration fund… they can focus on getting things built and stop worrying about the bats and the newts,” as she addresses the audience. In the background, there are large screens displaying the live stream of the speech, with a banner at the bottom reading “Kickstarting Economic Growth.”

Stop worrying about bats and newts? No Rachel Reeves MP – start worrying about the future of our economy if we tear down the nature it depends on.

Nature isn’t a blocker; it’s the foundation of growth.

We’re living in increasingly uncertain times, and I know many Londoners are concerned by what’s taking place around the world.

I want to remind Londoners that this is your home, and you are wanted here.

You help to make London what it is—the greatest city in the world.

Occasional reminder that there’s no, “it’s too late, its over” for anthropogenic climate change. Every molecule of CO2 that doesn’t go into the atmosphere makes a difference. Preventing 0.1 degree of warming makes a difference. Every bit of climate resilience we build together makes a difference.

World's hottest year: 2024 first to pass 1.5C warming limit Last year was the world's warmest on record, bringing temperatures above a politically symbolic milestone.

Well, that's not good. Thank goodness we have such strong global leadership to tackle climate change.

We are in so much trouble.

I came across this recently for the first time. It's amazing isn't it? Web tells me it's called Hair Ice!

Morning. Happy New Year.
A while ago I ran a series of daily tweets about birdsong. The idea was to encourage people to pay attention to the natural sounds around them, and learn to identify birds from their sounds alone (which, after all, is often the only clue you get to their presence).

Hair ice. Who knew of such a thing? Apparently it needs specific conditions - temperature, humidity and a fungus which creates anti freeze proteins 😍

Writing isn't what you do after you have an idea. It's how you develop an inkling into an insight.

Turning thoughts into words sharpens reasoning. What's fuzzy in your head is clear on the page.

"I'm not a writer" shouldn't stop you from writing. Writing is a tool for thinking.
