My current WIP is a book about my African Grey parrot. Bird brain is such a misnomer. He first just said that his dad, ahem, pooped behind the shredder 🤪 and then asked to listen to music “that shreds” but I answered that 6 am isn’t the time for such nonsense!

I just revamped the story I used as an extra pitch for PB Party and as my main PB Rising Stars submission, and I’m sure it’s stronger, so I feel more prepared now, no matter what happens next. Just a few more weeks until I know!
Congratulations!
Wow, thank you for all your effort!
Oops, teasers, lol. My phone guessed the word for me, and I didn’t catch it in time before posting 🤣
I think it would be great to see readers!
Would you like to see #PBParty teasers this year?

This is a wonderful opportunity. I have one to send. Thank you!
Usually we read picture books to our African Grey before putting him in his cage for the night. Lately we’ve been reading chapters from The Little Prince. Last night we got to the part about the prince taming the fox. I started crying. My precious bird snuggled up to me and said, “Oh, aww mom.”
Back to my 2002 (!) protocol this morning. Out of my favorite cardboard treasure chests, so I improvised. I quickly drew and laminated…worked beautifully! #values
I consistently forget about BlueSky. I’m trying to post and read posts more regularly. I’ve got no big news to share, but I really do want to be matter connected!
As a clinical psychologist and as an member of a multigenerational neurodivergent family, I’d say this is representation that the kidlit world has been missing! Very excited to read it :)
Definitely going in the Slate book: this morning I was meditating with him nearby. I heard him pulling his feathers out. I whispered that I thought the time was calming and the music felt healing. I asked if he felt so too. He yelled, “No!” He put his talon up signaling that he’d had enough! Got it.
Congratulations!
I could have sworn that I pre-ordered my friend Dolen Perkins-Valdez’s latest book, Happy Land, which came out yesterday. I didn’t receive it in the mail, which perplexed me. I hope it comes today. If I somehow forgot to pre-order, it just means I get one when I go to her book signing on Friday!
Feeling lucky in many ways and trying so hard to dry my office out so we don’t have to rip out walls and floors! Right now the moisture meter is beeping at me a lot!

Today I got my long-awaited copy of Aslan & Benny shipped from Penguin-Random House in Australia. I love when a book I critiqued for a friend makes it to print. It’s got beautiful language and a great non-preachy lesson about leaning into fear and other tough feelings. Congrats, Jemima Shafei-Ongu
Went to a lovely author event last night. Tova Mirvis was a great speaker, and I am excited to read her latest fiction novel, We Would Never, sparked by true events.
Sounds fun!
Hi! I will not because I have a Children’s Book Academy mentoring meeting at the same time. I will be planning a SCBWI meetup soon, though!
I had the perfect meld of my worlds today. I talked to an assistant principal of a local school this morning. She told me that she used one of my Becca Epps Series books in a social-emotional learning lesson with a group of kiddos that may or may not have included a couple of my clients :)
Congratulations!
