I play with common fantasy tropes. Farm girl, chosen one, progression… but twisting them around a bit. There’s hardly anything that’s truly original!

I have sentences from the books which form the basis of each language. Azurian is faux Latin. For Niemirian, I’m looking at Northern European languages. There are other minor languages that are used sparingly.

Some readers hate the different timelines, but I go back and forth with a 60/40 split (where 40% is the past). It becomes an epic fantasy by the end but it’s more of a character-driven piece with moments of action. The scope isn’t that big because it isn’t the end of the world!

🤣 That’s cool because I love it when authors make up languages. What I really need to do is record every instance of my faux languages so that sentence construction becomes easier for future books!

Elysia named her swords “Sini” and “Dextra,” which is almost Latin for left and right! The Azurian language is very similar to Latin, but heavily modernised!

I’ve shied away from using this made-up language in later books, but the first one has quite a bit of Azurian!

Yes, the core series will consist of 7 books, but it’s basically 1 big book split into more digestible chunks. There will be to-ing and fro-ing in the past and present timelines. Elysia’s relationship with Isabella will reach a crescendo by the end of Book 7. I would like to finish it soon!

The word I use too much in my writing is probably “I”.

It’s difficult to balance because I’m writing in 1st person. I see the need to cut excessive usage in roundabout ways. Sometimes, it’s impossible to cut them all out… and I don’t try to.

No nicknames in the WIPs so far. Elysia is occasionally called “Ellie” (which is an obvious one, and she actually asks a 4-yr-old to call her that). Talisa called her “Elle.” Isabella is the only one who calls her “Lys” (pronounced “Liss”)
