When the tissue is released from its substrate, these programmed internal forces drive controlled deformation, creating reproducible 3D structures.
🚀 Potential applications include:
• Tissue engineering
• Biohybrid robotics
• Smart living materials
By using chemical micropatterns, researchers can control how cells align within a tissue—effectively defining where forces are generated.
As Xavier Trepat explains:
“We can design the shape a living tissue will adopt just by controlling how its cells are oriented.”
Biological tissues naturally organize and change shape through forces generated by their own cells.
The challenge? Controlling those forces to design specific shapes.

💡 Van analitzar 1.916 variants d’amilina amb “deep mutational scanning”, comparant els resultats amb dades genètiques i clíniques de 500.000 individus i permitint veure amb precisió quines mutacions promouen o dificulten la formació d’agrupaments tòxics.
🔬 Investigadores de l'#IBEC creen un mapa mutacional de l’amilina que mostra com certes mutacions poden accelerar o frenar la formació d’agregats tòxics vinculats a la diabetis tipus 2.
