Jeez. Pirating something that fast is ridiculous.
Not sure how to now. At the time we were learning Meta had used pirated copies to train, a news site (maybe WaPo) had a way to search if your work was in the pirated database. My debut novel was. Not sure if it’s still around or not.
Heck yeah it is.
📝 Dear Black women authors, I’m giving away free copyediting services for six folks. After watching all the racist hate Black women authors endured through Black History Month, I wanted to do something positive.
Let’s lift Black women authors up! Not tear them down.

Details:
I wrote about my feels concerning that time Meta stole a pirated copy of my debut novel to train its AI.
Spoiler: It did not feel good.

They’re not wrong. And a great song.
When I first conceived of my character Mercedes Masterson, it was for a short indie noir film and I decided I wanted her to be both the private eye and femme fatale tropes all rolled into one. It makes for a fun character to write. So much so that I’ve been writing her off and on for over 20 years.
But only if they can be made using Claude.
Christian things I’ve never seen America do:
- turn the other cheek.
- feed the poor.
- be anti-violence.
- be anti-racist.
- love her neighbor.
- forgive.
And before you suggest it, yes, I’ve read the bible. Used to teach it even. But the Pope probably knows it better than me.
I published “Sally Pinkerton was Here” last year. You can snatch it up as a free ebook. It’s a young adult short story about not quite feeling you belong or always feeling like an extra in someone else’s movie.

Yup. Some people are taking the AI sniffing too far. And then authors and artists have to spend a lot of energy defending themselves against wild accusations across social media. I think a big part of it is people aren’t quite sure what is AI and what is just normal language use.
Heck yeah.
Seems relevant…
It’s impressive, honestly.
Hey.
So sorry for your loss. Sending good vibes and energy.
This isn’t important right now, all things considered, but it annoys me so much that we are limited to 300 characters on Bluesky.
Are other ATProto instances expanding character count? Or is it really so baked in that it can’t be undone without Bluesky’s blessing?
My #writing #music playlists are sometimes so dang good that I keep listening long after the story is published.
My playlist for “The Bride of Usher” is one of my favorite writing playlists. It’s short and full of bangers.

By the way: Eric sent those cease & desists in response to being asked for comment on the CNN story.
He had his lawyer TEXT cease & desists to the WOMEN SAYING HE RAPED THEM in the MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT. They were not named!
That’s the weirdest response to a request to comment that I’ve ever heard.
Have the men tried not being terrible? Seems like it’s worth a shot.
Yeah. That’s a dead giveaway that he knows what he did and who he did it to. What a piece of shit.
PI stories are so much fun. I need to read this. Congrats! I’m also writing a whole ass PI book series. And currently I’m writing a Nancy Drew horror mystery which is kinda like PI storytelling as she’s on the outside of law enforcement like a PI.
Was this meant in response to my indie film adaptation reply elsewhere? Or am I confused?
