I'd never really played anything like those games before either.
Yet I'd recommend Baldur's Gate 3. It's a phenomenal story, the game holds your hand as you learn how to play. You can change your class and character after a few hours of play. It's worth playing on story mode for the first time.

I awoke to see my friends standing over me, naked.
"Good, you're awake. When we put the nanite slug in your ear, we weren't sure if it had broken you. Soon, it'll take control and you'll become a Drone for the #HiveOfHypnos like us."
