Mary Lawlor, UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights Defenders, reminds us that ‘climate change IS a human rights issue’.

Her keynote speech at the @dcuclimate.bsky.social annual conference is a call to action, and a strong defence of #climate and #human #rights defenders worldwide.

UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights Defenders @marylawlorhrds.bsky.social addresses #DCUClimate2025 with a stark warning: the defence of private interests and status quo presents a “serious risk” to climate defenders.
But a glimmer of hope: "human rights defenders haven't given up"

Good input by Climate Change Advisory Council + Fiscal Advisory Council #MorningIreland. The data is clear, the advice is research and evidence-led so CRU view that data centres can power via on site fossil fuels and Govt heading for an LNG platform are ensuring national climate failure #spéirghorm

David Lodge, Campus Trilogy novelist and academic, dies aged 89 The author of more than two dozen books is best known for his trio set in a fictionalised version of the University of Birmingham, where he worked from 1960 to 1987

Very sad to learn of the death of David Lodge - the Dickens (or merely Amis?) of late-20th century academia - whose Changing Places helped enliven my graduate studies in the 1980s. Even though my PhD advisor once called me 'the Morris Zapp of your set'.... I'm still reflecting on that, bitterly.

Tough day for the Green Party, could be a complete wipe-out. Meanwhile, the #climate crisis deepens by the month.

If there are history books in the future, wonder what they’ll make of all this?

Specialised area starter packs for STS people is a good idea . I’ll go digging and see can I organise one.

1 year ago 1 2 0 0

I'm really sorry but all my starter packs are maxed out and with massive growth of bsky (hi everyone!), I just don't have the capacity to make more. Could others in #sts #envhums #scipol #histSTM #scicomm pick up and extend, perhaps with more specialist packs?
