It all comes down to the fact that Mandelson was obviously a risky pick for the job, doesn't it? The vetting process found some dodgy stuff but there was other dodgy stuff already in the public domain and then dodgy stuff that only came out later. But fundamentally none of it was surprising.

It's not like there's a guarantee to even make it to 70, get that pension money, smh

Idk, just trying to plan now, but knowing state pension age could even head towards 70 (or higher) by the time I get there, it's tough to know how much to lock in

I do think there shld be some flexibility for accessing private pension money, if in need, before the prescribed date.
If the state pension age rises to 68 (or higher), private pensions will be locked until at least 58. That makes planning tricky. I don't want a windfall at 70, if I'm skint at 55

Yeah, but the insider rich made billions, which I'd guess is the point

I think they will now, tbh, because honestly the alternatives are also dire. I hope it doesn't happen bc I think it'll make everything even worse, but seems like there's a strong chance it will

by no means the main take to be had here (indeed takes 1 to 25 should be along the lines of "fucking hell Keir"), but worth noting just how quickly moral rot can spread - all of this obviously happened because Trump won and the government needed someone morally rotten to step in to help them

I’m sure there’s someone who has worded it better than me but the idea of MARVEL, a universe born from comics has no problem laying off their ENTIRE team of visual artists …

men can’t understand what it’s like for women to see story after story after story of women being victims of sexual violence in a culture where it’s routine; what it’s like to live in a world that is fundamentally hostile to our existence. it’s a wonder we leave the fucking house, let alone thrive.

It may seem like nerdy detail that the increasing weight of cars is worsening potholes, but it matters.

The car makers push to sell wider and heavier cars is increasing road maintenance costs and that affects us all.

Not to mention worse crash outcomes and less space to pass (wider) parked cars.

The Drama would be a great date movie, tbh. Loads of stuff to disagree on and really brings a lot of core values to the discussion.

Alana Haim: scene stealer. Brilliant in this. Her face is so expressive and comic lol

Not enough people talk about how aggressive it makes some people. Watched a neighbour spiral on it, and I'm convinced the weed provoked impulsivity and aggression, as well as paranoia and possibly also depression

Glad to hear it! Good people make such a big difference! Yeah, surprisingly ok on the work front, at least for the last couple of months - well, let's see, I never like to jinx it! Might even be able to share some things, too - imagine that!

Photo of 'A Room Above A Shop' by Anthony Shapland, the cover has a black and white photo of a man sitting at the top of a mountain, two large overlapping low opacity rectangles, one eggshell blue, one a pale citrus yellow, which overlap to form a brighter green rectangle in the middle.
On the table, also a cinnamon bun and a latte.

By the way, rec for your partner, this book - chef's kiss, it's perfect! A book club book, chosen by the bookshop owner who's a lit grad, this one really is a keeper

By the way, how is your job going? Hope you landed at a nice place. Miss seeing your posts, I'm only a little on Blue Sky, too

In addition, I'm being randomly harassed around my neighbourhood (just dumb stuff, a guy yelled "b*tch" at me out of a car, e.g.), but for sure feels maybe related to prev situ also

Thanks Ste! I do have people who know large portions of it, but some of it is potentially sensitive info that I'm trying to keep a lid on, a bit for my own sake too. Yes, I would say very likely related to the previous situ. Just trying to keep my nervous system regulated, lmao, we can try!
