Update: In response to President Donald Trump’s tariffs on Chinese products, China immediately responded with a 15 percent tariff on U.S. liquified natural gas (LNG), among other U.S. imports. Driven by booming production from shale reserves, the U.S. has become the world’s largest LNG exporters and among the largest exporter of crude oil. China is a major buyer of U.S. LNG, serving as the market for nearly 6 percent of U.S. LNG exports. China also put in place a 10 percent tariff on U.S. crude oil.
