Also wanted to share that I drew the timed sketches in red first. Later, went in with a blue pencil to re-study the shapes, mark making, line, negative space etc.
A page of rodent themed sketches during a timed drawing session. A beaver sketched in 4 minutes, 6 mins for a rat and a red squirrel and 5 mins for a water vole.
Timed rodent sketches including a porcupine drawn in 9 mins and a trio of mice on a stalk of wheat, drawn in 10 minutes.
Some rodent themed sketches I made during a timed drawing session. I tried to be intentional about simplifying shapes and stylizing the animals from the references but not sure I was successful enough at that. #kidlitart #cuteanimalart
It’s a story about bravery, sacrifice and loyalty coming from an unexpected place. The story of man’s best friend. A truly underdog kinda tail (oops.. tale). 3/3
The story is about twin brothers who are at odds with each other. They’re also gods. Quetzalcoatl the serpent god, is popular and loved by all but is also kind of an ass to his brother who is considered a monstrosity and an outcast - Xolotl, the dog god. 2/3
A book titled ‘Xolo’ by Donna Barbra Higuera, illustrated by Mariana Ruiz Johnson, is placed against a window. The cover features an illustration of a mythical Aztec God ‘Xolotl’ in a graphic, hand drawn style with bold, solid colors, black line art and simple graphic elements on a dark background.
A spread from the graphic novel ‘Xolo’ that shows the twin Aztec gods- Xolotl on the left page against a black background showing his life in the dark underworld (bats, thorny plants, mushrooms, stars and a frog) while on the right, his brother Quetzalcoatl being glorified on earth against a bright red background (the sun, birds, flowers, fish, a fox and a flowing river).
I finally read Xolo, (by Donna Barbra Higuera), a wonderfully illustrated (by Mariana Ruiz Johnson) graphic novel for young kids.
Really enjoyed this retelling of Aztec mythology around twin brothers who’re gods. 1/3

Bugleweed plants and its spring flowers
I planted a couple of small pots of bugleweed around 5 or 6 years ago and each year the plant multiplied. It’s a slow growing one but such a pretty one during the spring and fall seasons. 😍 #gardening #naturelover #bugleweed
A very sweet and aptly named kitty 😊🥰

Such a beautiful portrait of your cat! I am in awe of your fur patterning abilities 🤩
Oh yea, I think that’s a valid point! It seems like a very unlikely scenario for sure.
But THT hits a lot closer to home as a woman living in a reality where women’s rights over her health and body are still a big challenge to overcome.
So it’s a much harder show to watch in that sense which totally justifies your reaction.
I think MITHC feels a little bit removed from our current day world because it’s an alternative reality fiction with sci-fi elements (like time traveling) based on a historical event that we (our present generation) haven’t lived through. It’s slightly easier to detach from our reality in that sense
The only reason I needed a break from MITHC was because I was watching all seasons back to back and just starting to get fatigued from watching one show over several weeks (not binge watching). It definitely didn’t feel as harrowing as THT for sure! So it’s probably the shows writing at work.
Another show I started watching last year was ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ which also felt disconcertingly relevant to our current times.
Such a good show! I think I’m on the final season but I needed a break for a little while. Hoping I can complete the show at some point!
A badge that says "I applied to be a 2026 mentee" for the Picture Books Rising Stars Mentee Program.
@pbrisingstars.bsky.social Cutting it close but I finally applied to 3 mentors I'm excited about! Things have been hectic and I'm literally exhausted from the flu but there's nothing like a last chance and deadline to motivate me into action 😆
I'm hoping to apply to 2 more mentors. 🤞
So cool. I’ve always been fascinated by these planners but I am even more awed by the kind of planning and creativity that folks come up with to fill these pages. I have such a basic format for a planner but that works for my overwhelmed brain, so it’s kinda fun to see/learn how others do it 😊
Wolves are still being portrayed as villains in modern storytelling, despite the facts. These fear-based narratives fuel misinformation and public fear. It’s time to change the narrative.

Thank you. 😊 I hope that’s not a bad thing for publishing! 😄

A rough sketch of a Shrew sitting in his armchair reading a book in a cosy room inside a mushroom. The room has a reading lamp above the shrew, some picture frames on the wall, a clock, an asymmetrical window with sheer curtains, a wood stove with a pipe connecting to the chimney poking out of the roof of a mushroom, a small bookshelf with a pet ladybug perched on it and a small transistor radio, on a side table, playing music. The outside of the mushroom is surrounded by large dandelion plants and a tiny ladybug flying over the roof.
A black and white illustration of a faun in the woods during night time. He climbs over a rotting log that has mushrooms sprouting out of it. The glow of several fireflies surrounds the faun who has a surprised expression on his face.
A magical pumpkin farm surrounds a regally robed witch who looks quite delighted in her garden. A candle hovers by her head while her magical broomstick lightly rests against her. She holds a wand in one of her hands while her cauldron bubbles with a magic spell. Her familiar, a black cat with purple hat half stands on a pumpkin next to her and looks at her with a smile.
An illustration of a faun resting against a tree, holding his pan flute. He looks content to be among floating butterflies and a bird in the tree behind him.
Hi #kidlitartpostcart #kidlitart
I love illustrating animals, mythical creatures, and people. I like to draw cute and spooky stuff and I’d love to draw for children’s books/mags, editorials and products.
