out of the gates, pressing with 110% intensity, only for Scholesy to completely demoralize their press within the first 5-10 minutes, with a nonchalance almost as if he was ignoring them or playing them like a puppet master. His ability to see time and space a few seconds into the future
It was the spatial awareness, close control, and subtle touches that made him unpressable. In the latter stages of his career, after he shifted to playing deeper in the pivot, my favorite game-within-the-match to watch was to see the opposition, hyped up for a shot at the mighty reds, come flying
A different sort of tribute to Paul Scholes
99% of the time if you see a video comp posted of Scholesy, the focus is on either his goalscoring or his long-range passing, both of which were world-class. I could watch those clips all day long, BUT, if you asked me what I appreciate most about him:
1000%. At least bin the nations league.
