I was going by the problem cited in the article, that it's the power draw demands of heat pumps and EV chargers, but on reflection is probably just as much the densification, replacing one home with 4-6 units, that's driving the need for bigger power infra.

Some stuff is genuinely hard and not a simple own goal. Seattle has prohibited new gas hookups for new construction, so all heating and cooking has to be electric now, which means everything is being built with heat pumps. That's great on the climate front, but bad for building cheap housing.

ah, thanks. I know balcony solar as a German/European phenomenon, didn't catch in his pod that it's big in Pakistan.

I don't know if the average 4-pack in Seattle has enough roof or southfacing facade to power 4 heatpumps and an EV charger or two...

What did Pakistan do that would help here?

This is a novel version of the traditional:
- try to log into account
- pwd doesn’t work
- click ”don’t remember pwd?”
- wait for email, click link in email
- choose for new pwd the thing you thought was the pwd
- “you cannot use any previous pwd” error
- tack a digit onto pwd until it’s accepted

Everybody‘s got pain points in their life, right? So people are writing custom apps or websites to solve some of their pain points. My bookclub was having endless email threads about picking our next book, so I made a web app for that.

“It’s like England and (Great) Britain.” Technically not 100% correct, but everyone immediately gets it.

He is a business & investment guy so questions in that direction make the most sense.

My Q: Now that solar & wind can compete on their own merits, what tech should be next for having its cost curve driven down? (i.e. subsidized or favored for investment to reach scale?) Where lies max impact?

The trails are designated ”Primary use Mountain Biking”. Making THs transit-accessible to mountain bikers is tough as now the bus has to have multiple bike racks or ppl risk showing up and having the racks be full. For increased hiking access I wouldn’t pick these trails that have heavy MTB use.

It’s a DNR trailhead and project but King County issues the permits and has to sign off on the work.

And it’s an ADA trailhead that gets effectively zero ADA usage. They could just block the ramp with a heavy object and let the rest of us use the trailhead.

It's the same King County that can't bother to open a new parking lot at the Tiger Summit (Hwy 18) trailhead because some minor punch list items aren't done. There's no official trailhead parking in the mean time, only a WSDOT lot that's in terrible shape. But nooo, the ADA ramp needs a railing.

hey @wsdot.wa.gov t @passes.wsdot.wa.gov - you say on Twitter that Stevens Pass is closed but the pass reports on your website do not reflect that status (wsdot.com/travel/real-...: "Traction tires advised...")

i think if you want to have those disgusting LED headlights on your car, you should have to do a test where they blast you point blank with your own headlights and then you have 15 seconds to successfully complete some sort of vision-based task, and if you can't do it they push your car off a cliff

Musk wants to get to Mars and started SpaceX 23 years ago…

He doesn’t have to personally run the party, he just has to find someone he trusts and give them lots of money for a long time. If they have any early success, more Silicon Valley money or Koch money may pour in.

Cap Hill is 8 stories in a zone near the station, and we’ll see some of that go up soon, I think, but that’s nothing like the UW with its 20+ story towers…
Now about the lame redevelopment of Northgate…

Doesn’t matter, they behave as if building AGI.

But people are over-focusing on the “AGI” detail here.

In general, everyone wants their chat bot to be as good as possible, and you can achieve that with software hacks or more hardware OR BOTH and so everyone will keep doing both to compete.

But the big players think they are building AGI so they will follow this reasoning.
